pearl and dallas had talked for a little bit longer until darry had called them over for dinner. "dinner's ready you two! come in and eat" darry yelled from the kitchen.
"i guess we better get inside now, it's getting a bit cold here anyway" she smiled at dallas, walking inside first. dallas then followed her, throwing a cigarette to the dead, yellow-green grass laying outside most of the porch.
they walked to the kitchen and sat down next to each other at the dinner table. darry had made a spaghetti that sure seemed delicious. the guys and joyce had already started eating, so the two began to eat as well.
"so pearl, how'd you meet joyce?" darry asked. "we met ever since the third grade, we played together during recess and well we've been best friends ever since" she smiled. "oh stop pearl you're making me blush" joyce chuckled and so did pearl.
"pearl you got a boyfriend?" two-bit suddenly asked. pearl's cheeks went red, she never talked much about her love life, considering that she never felt love from a guy and never really thought of it. pearl was already used to receiving love from her parents, something she was always grateful for.
"no, i don't" she answered awkwardly with a small smile. "two-bit i warned you earlier to not ask her those kinds of questions you weirdo" joyce playfully yelled at him. "c'mon joyce, you know that you and i both are great at being matchmaker. if pearl don't have a boyfriend then we can help her find one. ain't that right pearl?" two-bit grinned at pearl.
"um sure" pearl nodded slowly. "that's the spirit pearl" two-bit grinned. pearl looked around, trying to find a clock somewhere, but unfortunately she couldn't find one so she had to ask the guys. "what time is it?" pearl asked. luckily joyce had worn her watch.
"it's seven fourty three" joyce answered. "jeez, i guess i gotta get going. i've got a curfew and my house is like ten minutes far from here" pearl said, quickly getting up from her seat then picked up her plate. "i'll wash my plate first and i'll go" she said, walking towards the kitchen sink.
"pearl, don't worry i can take care of it, you should get home before you get home before dark and past curfew" darry spoke. "oh thanks darry, you're the best" she grinned. "would you like someone to walk with you?" he asked. "oh no thanks, it's alright. i walk home by myself most of the time" she said.
"it was nice meeting you guys, i'll see you guys soon. see you at school joyce!" she said, quickly walking outside so that she could get home in time.
"what do you guys think of her?" joyce asked the guys with a smile. "you should bring her here more often, she's amazing and finally i meet someone with good manners. barely any girl here in tulsa has good manners anymore well besides you joyce" darry said, picking up the empty plates from the dinner table. the guys nodded in agreement, well except dallas, who was looking at his ring.
shortly after pearl left, dallas couldn't stop thinking about her. he was sitting down on the couch, zoning out. he began wishing that he could talk to her more but unfortunately he didn't since he had a big ego and was very reserved, never talking about his personal life especially with a girl.
"whatcha thinkin' about dal?" joyce asked suspiciously, sitting next to him. "nothin' joy why?" he asked, looking at her strangely. "you seem.. i don't know.. a little depressed ever since pearl left" joyce chuckled, nudging his side with her elbow.
"quit it man" he said, trying not to laugh. "you dig her don't you?" she asked. "maybe or maybe not i ain't sayin' nothin' to you man" he said, playing with his st. christopher necklace then nudged her side gently with his elbow.
"oh c'mon dally don't be so stubborn, that's why the chicks don't wanna go out with you. you're too stubborn and us chicks hate that" she crossed her arms. "okay fine, i am starting to dig her a bit. but y'know.. i'm dallas winston and i can't ruin my reputation even if it's just for a girl" he said defensively.
"oh don't be ridiculous dally. you can just tell me to set you up with pearl, besides i'm trying to find a guy who would be perfect for pearl. i can't leave her single while i've got andrew as my boyfriend, she also needs to experience a different kind of love in her life, besides the love that her own parents give her. she needs to... grow up a little" she said.
"y'know what joy, i think you're right. i want you to set me up with her. try getting her to go to the dingo on.. friday evening, i'll meet her there and you can just tell her that you'll be the one seeing her and i don't know, i guess we'll see" he said.
"wow dally, i didn't know you were smart, that's real clever of you" joyce joked. "yeah i am man now shut up" dallas said playfully.
dallas met joyce around the same time he met the gang. they've had a brother and sister relationship ever since, except they would mostly playfight, prank each other and many other things that a typical brother and sister would do.
"well i guess i'll tell her on monday and we'll see how it goes. oh and dally, you better start learning how to act like a gentleman with a girl, so that you can flatter pearl. be nice and don't screw this up dally, because i will let go of my dog and i will tell him to bite your balls" she warned.
"at least teach me how to act like a gentleman without making me look like some stupid preppy soc okay man?" he asked. "sure thing dally, i'll teach you tomorrow cause looks like you have a lot of learning to do" she joked.
"shut your mouth joy" he said defensively. joyce began to laugh whilst shaking her head. "don't worry dally, i'm gonna make sure you become a real gentleman so that you and pearl can hopefully live a happily ever after" she said with an excited squeal.
"alright man, don't get too excited it's just a date" he said. "it could be more dally, i mean who knows?" she shrugged. "definitely not you" he joked. "shut up" she said, slapping his arm.

on monday, everyone came back to school. many people looked hungover and really tired. on weekends, students took advantage of their weekends to become the reckless people they are and have fun which always meant going to buck's parties.
pearl was putting her books in her locker when joyce walked over to her with a big grin on her face. "what joyce?" pearl asked, looking at her confusedly. "oh nothing pearl.. i was just wondering if you wanted to go to the dingo on friday?" joyce asked. "you're acting weird joyce, we haven't gone to the dingo in ages" pearl told her.
"i know, but i just really felt like going to the dingo i just really miss the food and the milkshakes. besides, your parents will most likely give you permission anyway since you're going with me and they really like me" she said. "i'll have to ask them first though, i can't promise you they're gonna say yes" pearl shrugged.
"i think they will pearl. i can assure you" joyce said. the school bell rang, students now walking to their classes. "i'll see ya later pearl" joyce smiled, walking to class. "see ya" pearl smiled back and waved at her.
