Picture this.

Freelance photographer gets hired for a job. The job: help promote a coffee shop that also doubles as a music cafe. The cafe has a local group playing for their grand opening. Said group has a drummer. A drummer who, apparently, can't hold onto his drumsticks half the time.

This drumstick goes flying right at the end of their set. And proceeds to hit the photographer right on the head.

(That made for an interesting photo set).

Well, the only thing left for the photographer to do, is to return the drumstick.

And, that, my friends, is how this daydream of a romance begins.

Malina Neilson was just doing her job, when out of NOWHERE, a drumstick whacks her on the head.

She was just glad she didn't drop her camera. That would have been a disaster.

Looking around to see if anyone saw the incident, Mal doesn't see anyone staring at her or laughing. At the last second, however, she makes eye contact with one specific person.

The drummer who's drumstick went flying.

He gives her a sheepish smile as she holds up his stick, a grin on her face. Mal tilts her head, gesturing to a set of tables towards the back. The drummer nods, heading over there to meet her after the band gives their thanks.

"I am so sorry about that! It slipped right out!" are the first words out of Bob Floyd's mouth.

Malina laughs it off, handing the drumstick back to him. "Honestly, it's not a big deal. Startled me more than it hurt."

But Bob still looked upset he had inadvertently hit someone. "Promise. I've got a hard head," Mal assures him.

That finally gets him to loosen up a bit. A small smile appears on his face, as he holds out his hand. "I'm Bob."

Mal shakes his hand, balancing her camera in the other. "Malina."

Bob gestures to the shop, "will you let me buy you a drink and pastry as an apology?"

Malina almost tells him it was no big deal before she registers what exactly he said. "Sure." She gives him a sweet smile before they head up to the counter.

Once their drinks and food are paid for and grabbed, the duo go back to the table they had met at before.

"So, does your band do this for a living? Or is it more of a hobby?" Malina starts up a conversation. She had, after all, been photographing their set and the audience all day.

Bob takes a swig of his drink before replying. "It's more of a hobby, at least for me. I play whenever I'm home, but they play more often."

Malina raises an eyebrow, silently urging him to elaborate. "I'm in the Navy, on leave right now."

The woman raises both eyebrows at that, not expecting that answer at all.

"I didn't peg you as a Navy guy. What do you do for them?" She takes a bite of her croissant, looking at the man who is becoming more interesting every time he opens his mouth.

Bob pushes up his glasses, a little sheepish. Here was this beautiful woman, actually interested in what he was saying.

"I'm a Naval Aviator. Well, technically I'm a Weapons Specialist Operator. I work with the actual aviators to monitor everything in the jets."

Well Bob was just full of surprises. "That's so cool! I'm afraid of heights, I could never be in a plane or jet like that." Malina shutters at the simple thought.

Bob, never good with compliments like that, is quick to change the subject. He gestures to her camera. "I'm taking a guess here, but I think you may do some photography."

The two let out light chuckles. "Yea, I'm a freelance photographer. I was hired by the owners of the cafe to get some shots to do some promotional work."

She shows him some of the initial shots before explaining that she still got plenty of editing to do.

Malina checks her phone as she feels a buzz. Realizing the time, she quickly thinks of something.

"I've got some pretty good shots of your band that I can send you, once I edit them. Give me your number and I'll text you when they are done."

Bob nearly drops her phone when she hands it to him. His hands shake slightly as he enters his number, hoping it isn't too noticeable.

Hey, he's never had a girl this forward actively flirting with him. And what can he say, Malina was gorgeous. He may need glasses but he isn't blind.

Malina bits the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling like an idiot. "Perfect. I'll let you know when they are ready."

And with that, Malina Neilson walks out of the cafe and right into Bob Floyd's heart.
