I stood by Ariella's bedside, the sterile hospital room casting a solemn atmosphere around us. Her once vibrant face was now pale and lifeless, her hands cold and limp in mine.
A doctor entered, his footsteps echoing in the quiet room as he attended to her chart and adjusted the IV drip. His sympathetic gaze spoke volumes as he left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I closed my eyes and prayed for a miracle, begging whatever higher power was out there to bring Ariella back to me. I couldn't live without her, couldn't imagine a world where she wasn't by my side.
A gentle knock on the door interrupted the heavy silence, and I looked up to see Daniel and Lucas entering with tentative smiles. I tried to greet them, but my voice failed me.
I kissed Ariella's forehead before excusing myself, allowing them to have their moment with her. As I settled into one of the uncomfortable chairs, I downed a cup of coffee, something I'd been doing a lot lately.
Lucas blames himself that he has even physically distanced himself from all of us, even Dion. I'm not sure if they're still seeing each other.
He believes if he had killed Massimo with the first shot, his sister wouldn't have been lying in a coma for the past three weeks.
The past few weeks have been incredibly tough, with the doctors uncertain if she would even make it through the night. The doctors don't believe she'll wake up anytime soon, if ever.
We had to move her to another hospital to ensure she received the best possible care, and to avoid any police involvement.
Yesterday, my parents visited to bring food and check up on Ariella and me. Dion, Nic, and Hazel visit early in the morning every day, just talking to her, while Lucas and his dad come by in the evening.
I've been staying here by her side every single day. My dad is running the mafia until I come back, making sure there are no other moles.
Nic and Hazel are dealing with Jack; they found that piece of shit hiding in one of the large wardrobes. It's unfortunate that Massimo died because I would have loved to make him suffer a hundred times more than what he put Ariella through.
The only time I've left this place was to torture Jack. The thought of her waking up alone haunted me, driving me to remain by her side until she finally opened her eyes.
"Hey," Dion greeted, settling into the chair beside me with a thick book in hand. I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the slight beard growth but lacking the energy to shave.
"You were here this morning already," I remarked, leaning back.
"Yeah, I know... I just wanted to spend as much time with her as possible," he admitted the words sounding forced.
"She's not going to die," I asserted, my glare more directed at myself as if I needed convincing.
Dion nodded in understanding but remained silent.
