~Kayla's POV~
"Kayla!!"My very angry father screamed as I ran away from yet another meeting with the rest of the Vampire council.
"Haha," I laughed jumping off the balcony to the third floor, perfectly landing on my feet, despite the heels. Taking a deep breath I walked over to our large maze-like garden.
The moonlight cast eerie shadows as I made my way through the winding paths, the sounds of my father's frustrated cries fading behind me. I knew he didn't understand my desire for independence, my need to explore beyond the confines of our coven's rules.
All he wanted was to build an army and eradicate the werewolves, but I just don't care for that. Reaching the center I sat on the edge of the fountain, staring down at my reflection, my purple eyes staring back at me. I always wondered why I looked the way I did. Of all the people in my coven, and it's a very large coven, I was the only one with white hair and purple eyes.
As I sat there lost in thought, the rustling of leaves caught my attention. My senses sharpened, and I slowly rose to my feet, ready for whatever may come my way, out hopped a very fluffy black bunny. "Awe, hello" I muttered getting on my knees.
The bunny hopped closer to me, its tiny nose twitching as it sniffed the air. I reached out a hand, expecting it to scamper away, but instead, it nuzzled into my palm, its fur impossibly soft against my skin. A warmth spread through me, I always did love all things soft and fluffy.
As I sat there, watching the bunny with a gentle smile, I heard a soft voice behind me. "Beautiful night, isn't it?" I turned to see a figure emerging from the shadows, his eyes glinting in the moonlight. It was Lucas, a friend of mine. Luckily he was into guys, so there was no possibility for any of that shit where the guy friend likes the girl friend but doesn't tell them until it's inconvenient.
The bunny hopped onto my lap burying its face in my tummy, shivering slightly.
its tiny body pressed close for warmth. I couldn't help but laugh at the sight, the unexpected company of the bunny and Lucas easing the tension that had been coiled within me.
Lucas knelt beside me, his gaze shifting from the bunny to me with a playful glint in his eyes. "Seems like you've made a new friend, Kayla."
I chuckled softly and stroked the bunny's fur, feeling a sense of peace settling over me. "It appears so. I think this little one just needed some company on this beautiful night."
"What about me, I want company too" he huffed playfully glaring at me
I rolled my eyes "Sure you do big guy" I chuckled "By the way, how are things with Ezekiel?"
"Done" he huffed again in annoyance "he was fucking some other chick I found out"
Lucas's words hung in the air, heavy with a mix of bitterness and hurt. I reached out a hand to squeeze his shoulder in comfort, offering him a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry, Lucas. You deserve better than that."
He let out a sigh, leaning into my touch for a moment before straightening up with a playful smirk. "Well, at least I have a mysterious white-haired vampire with purple eyes and a bunny as company now. Who needs Ezekiel, right?"
"Damn right," I said smirking at him.
"Kayla!"
I flinched and looked behind me to see my father fuming, his long black hair tumbling down his shoulders in waves and his fiery red eyes glaring at me, his sharp fangs gleaming in the moonlight. I stood up slowly, the bunny hopping out of my lap and disappearing into the bushes. Lucas rose to his feet as well, his expression shifting to one of caution as he observed my father's arrival.
