~Kayla's POV~

“Vampire" she gasped.

“I- uhm" I stuttered out, shocked by her reaction. Suddenly I realized that everyone around us had become silent staring at me in fear.

Thistle's mother stepped forward cautiously, her expression a mix of fear and curiosity. "What brings a vampire to our realm?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The other fairies around us shifted nervously, their delicate wings fluttering with agitation.

I took a step back, feeling the weight of their collective gaze upon me. "I... I did not intend to intrude," I replied, trying to convey my sincerity. "I simply stumbled upon this place by accident."

The fairies murmured amongst themselves, their voices like the rustling of leaves in the wind. “And how pray tell did you just, stumble upon a gateway?” Thistle's mother asked “None of your kind can even see them, much less enter one, you must have a witch with you! What is it you want!?”

“I promise you it was an accident” I swore “if, if my presence truly bothers you, I'll leave”

She continued to stare at me with a look of curiosity and recognition before shaking her head, “it would be wise if you left vampire" she decided, pushing Thistle behind her

“But mama!” He pressed

“No Thistle” she hissed, not taking her eyes off me.

I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. It was clear that my presence was causing unrest among the fairies, and I had no desire to incite further fear or tension. With a final apologetic glance towards Thistle, I turned on my heel and began to walk back towards the shimmering tree. The fairies parted silently, their eyes following my every movement until I stepped through the golden portal.

As soon as I passed through to the other side, the cool darkness of the night enveloped me once more. I found myself back in the familiar woods, the sounds of nature filling the air around me. The memory of Thistle's joyous laughter and his mother's wary gaze lingered in my mind.

I continued on my journey through the woods, wondering what happened that seemed to cause every species there is to hate and fear vampires.

“Shit" I cursed tripping over a tree root, suddenly I heard giggling. I spun around, searching the area around me but finding nothing.

I turned around to continue but was given a jumpscare “Hi!”

“AHHH!”

“Jeez am not that scary” Taking a good look at the leaf-pattered clothes, the pointed ears and the fangs I concluded that she was an elf

“Why?” I huffed

“I dunno” she shrugged jumping down from the trees “So why are you out here by yourself Vamp"

I regarded the elf cautiously, noting the mischievous glint in her eyes. "I could ask you the same thing, Elf," I replied coolly, crossing my arms. The elf just grinned, seemingly undeterred by my guarded demeanor.

"I'm just out exploring," she said with a shrug, twirling a lock of her long, leaf-green hair around her finger. "What about you? What brings a vampire wandering through these woods?"

I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal to this curious stranger. But something about her open expression put me at ease, and I found myself answering honestly. "My father got mad and temporarily banished me from my coven, I have six months before I can go back home, so I'm just wondering” I shrugged

The elf's eyes widened in surprise at my confession before she burst into a fit of laughter. "Your dad banished you? That's rich!" she exclaimed between giggles, her laughter like the tinkling of bells. I rolled my eyes, a smile on my lips “Well, see you around, I guess"
