6. The Hive

When Alex and Tom got to school, they soon realised they weren't the only ones talking about the new Pookie Plumber film that came out on the weekend, and they certainly weren't the only ones wearing their wristband.

They were standing in the school yard talking to someone about the film. Well, Alex was doing most of the talking, Tom was just listening. When Aneisha arrived at school, she saw that people were wearing wristbands and went over to Tom and Alex to ask them about it. She tapped Tom on the shoulder to get his attention, Tom turned around causing Alex to do the same.

"What's with the new wristband?" Aneisha asks. 

"Didn't you see the new Pookie Plumber film last weekend. They were given them away at the cinema." Tom told Aneisha.

"Some of us had to visit our aunties."

"Ouch" Was all Alex had to say. She was grateful her mum was an only child.

"Oh dear, don't think we can talk to you anymore" Tom jokingly said to Aneisha as he slowly turned around.

"Haha(!)"Aneisha said.

"Don't worry, everyone will have forgotten about it by tomorrow" Alex reassured Aneisha. She just smiled at Alex and walked away. Alex turned around bringing her attention back to Tom and continued to speak about their weekend.

Alex and Tom went to the cinema together over the weekend. They had fun smuggling in food and drinks in Alex's bag just so they didn't have to buy the ridiculously expensive popcorn at the cinema.

They then heard the bell ring, and everyone made their way to their lesson and unfortunately, they had Mr McNab first.

"Bees, ants, termites their examples of creatures that operate with a hive mind. That's when an entire colony worked together for a single purpose, but it can be a terrible destructive force to" Mr McNab was talking, but no one was listening. Everyone was too busy either throwing scrunched up pieces of paper or aeroplanes at each other.

Alex's paper aeroplane landed in Toms face, and she just laughed when he turned to look at her. They were interrupted by Mr Flatley coming into the classroom.

"Sorry to interrupt Mr McNab. I just wanted to let everyone know that I shall be away for a few days attending a conference on school discipline" As Mr Flatly was talking the bell went off, indicating that the lesson was over. Everyone started to pack up their stuff immediately and walked out of the classroom.

"So, whilst I'm away, please make sure that you... oh." Mr Flatly stopped talking as everyone had left.

Eventually, it was time for break, and everyone was standing in the courtyard when Mr McNab started to yell at the students.

"Morgan fix your tie!" Dan did so reluctantly.

"Donaldson, Cooper tuck your shirt in" Tom just watched Alex with an amused face while she just glared at Mr McNab, and he just glared back. The staring contest was interrupted by Byron. Alex just rolled her eyes and tucked in her shirt.

"That's the bloke off the TV" Everyone turned to see what or who Byron was talking about.

"Jimmy Jubbly the cook" Zoe said.

"Jimmy Jubbly's not just a cook, he campaigns for better food in school" Melissa added.

"That's not going to be hard here" Tom said half joking and half serious.

"Excuse me, can I help you?" Mr McNab said stopping Jimmy from walking any further.

"Yeah, I'm Jimmy Jubbly. The minister sent me" Jimmy said while looking between Mr McNab and his camera man. Jimmy then said something quietly to Mr McNab, so the students couldn't hear.
