When the day came, JJ was distraught. He'd been quiet all morning. Kiara reassured him countless times that things would be okay, but his expression never relaxed. He was cold, unreadable. She couldn't tell what he was feeling. She would brush off the shoulders of his suit and kiss his cheek, and he would give a short lived smile just to fade back into nothingness.

He was in the mirror for a long time, trying to figure out his tie, and then ultimately giving up on it. He was going to see his father. This wasn't nearly worth the effort. Then Mike was staring at him and the shriveled tie in hand. JJ ignored it, but he could tell the man had a sort of urge to help him. He wouldn't have accepted it. He couldn't have. The mental block was absolutely destroying his character.

He checked the time, glancing back at his girlfriend with a knowing stare. She had questions with her eyes, but he ignored those too. He couldn't crack now... he couldn't be sure he'd be able to pull himself back together.

"Ready to go?"

"Yeah."

They piled into the car, like a family on its way to church. The silence was heavy, crowding over each passenger of the minivan Mike and Anna had purchased that summer. The parents felt awkward, Kiara was still racking her brain for ways to help JJ, and of course, the blonde boy himself was trying to quiet his screaming thoughts into submission.

A court house held many, many feelings. It was already an uneasy place. JJ wondered if Luke had ever been there before. With the amount of drinking and drugs he'd done, he'd probably been there more than once. He swallowed the lump in his throat. This was familiar territory for Luke.

"JJ?" Kiara held the door open for him, and be found himself catching up with them already. "Come on."

He followed her words, entering the place just as an icy chill made its way up his spine. Kiara was wearing a black dress with a colorful flower sewn onto the end. Her hair was perfectly curled the way JJ loved, with those same golden star-shaped earrings dangles beneath. He kept picturing her in the dress he'd bought. He kept picturing asking her out. He would picture anything to get out of this moment, but he had to focus or this would all go horribly wrong.

Inside the courtroom, officials littered the pews. Officers stood by each entrance and exit, and a lawyer, no doubt provided for Luke, stood nervously shifting from foot to foot in a pencil skirt. He tried not to pay attention to her uneasiness. That shit would spread if he wasn't careful.

He sat in his respective spot, and Kiara sat on the way edge of her own behind him and his designated lawyer. She looked confident, which the Carrera liked. Mike put a hand over hers, squeezing it for some sort of reassurance. It must have worked, because Kiara smiled at him seconds later.

Then, the Devil walked out from caged walls. He stood evil eyed in a large jumpsuit, escorted by men in blue. His hands were behind his back, and there were cuts littered around his face and neck. Had he gotten into a fight?

JJ took one look at him, and immediately felt sick to his stomach. He turned away, curling into the seat, and heaving deep uncomfortable breaths. Kiara piped up from behind him.

"Hey, it's okay. He can't do anything from his position."

JJ swallowed, already beginning to sweat. He nodded at Kiara, running a hand through his hair and thoroughly screwing up his neatly done hair. Anna's eyes grew wide at that, but she kept herself in check. Kiara didn't mind JJ's messy hair look. It felt more like him, which helped her nerves. JJ even looked a little more confident himself.
