The ink on Oner's new employment papers hadn't even dried when Gumayusi decided to set the stage for their dynamic. He slid over a digital tablet, its screen glowing with an extensive list of tasks. "These should keep you occupied for the next week or so," Gumayusi declared, a smug grin playing on his lips.
Oner studied the tasks briefly, noting their complexity and the sheer volume of work. Most would have protested or at least negotiated for a more reasonable workload, and Gumayusi expected nothing less. But to his surprise, Oner simply nodded. "I'll get started right away."
Frowning, Gumayusi felt the first pangs of annoyance. "Aren't you going to say something?" he teased, trying to elicit a response.
Oner looked up, his expression still calm. "I'm here to work, sir. You've given me tasks, and I'll complete them."
Stifling his growing irritation, Gumayusi leaned in, his voice dripping with insinuation. "Such a diligent worker. Makes me wonder how that dedication translates... elsewhere."
Oner's fingers paused momentarily on the tablet, but he refrained from giving Gumayusi the satisfaction of a response. Instead, he continued setting up his schedule.
Gumayusi, not one to be easily ignored, began listing out a slew of specifics, "Make sure you archive all emails I've received in the past six months, prioritize my meetings based on their importance and the net worth of the people involved. Also, ensure my coffee is precisely 74°C every morning and no creases on any of my paperwork. Ever."
Oner, nodding to each demand, occasionally made notes. It was then that he reached for a small candy from his personal stash on the desk. The shiny wrapper crinkled under his fingers as he slowly, deliberately unwrapped it.
Caught in his own list of absurdities and watching Oner handle the candy, Gumayusi's words began to taper off, "... and the report layouts should always be in portrait mode and—"
Without warning, Oner swiftly reached out and popped the candy into Gumayusi's mouth. "Perhaps this will help you behave," he quipped, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
Gumayusi sat frozen for a moment, the sweet taste of the candy spreading across his tongue. Grudgingly, he had to admit it was delicious. But the audacity! His cheeks colored in a mix of anger and embarrassment.
Clearing his throat, he pointedly remarked, "You have quite some nerve."
Oner's eyes twinkled with mischief, but his voice remained steady. "Just returning the favor, sir."
With a huff, Gumayusi retreated to his desk, but not before casting one more annoyed glance at Oner. The day had certainly taken an unexpected turn, and for once, Gumayusi wasn't entirely in control. The thought was as unsettling as it was exciting.
