Hopeless - (Bellamy Blake - Book 2)

Chapter 15.

Bellamy gets up and embraces his sister whilst the rest of us gather enough strength to stand.

"Hey," I say quietly to Murphy, gaining his attention. I look up at him and give a small nod. "Thank you, for not letting him fall."

Murphy nods slowly. "Yeah. Figure he owes me one now."

I scoff and walk towards Bellamy and Octavia, embracing her tight.

"Good to see you." I tell her once we pull away.

"You too."

"Lincoln?" Her face falls, and she shakes her head. The jolt of sadness hits me harder than I expect, "I'm so sorry."

Behind us, Monroe lets out a hiss of pain as she rests against the tree stump.

"Grounder arrow?" Octavia asks and bounds over to her.

"Yeah."

"Let me see." Octavia cuts open a part of Monroe's trousers to look at the wound, then picks up a stray arrow. She glances up at me, then Bellamy before talking to Monroe. "I can wrap this up, but we need to get you some medicine."

"Medicine?" Monroe repeats.

"The Ark," I say to Octavia, "Clarke's mom is there."

"The Ark?" She scoffs, "Great."

"We're not too far, maybe a day." Bellamy inputs.

I nod, then glance over at Finn looking over the map to the Grounder camp.

I head over to Bellamy and say quietly to him, "What's the plan now—back to the Ark? What about the others?"

He sighs. "Monroe and Mel need medical treatment. It wouldn't be right to drag them with us to the Grounder camp."

"Finn won't want to turn around."

"I know. He'll have to go on without us, and we'll meet back up." I look over at Finn, then back at Bellamy. "What?" He prompts me.

I lick my dry lips. "I'm going with him. With Finn." Bellamy takes in a deep breath and nods, but I carry on. "You can see what he's like, he's...on edge. I need to be there for him. Like he was for me."

He nods again, a look of understanding on his face as he says, "I know. Go, I'll find you after I take these guys home."

I nod back and give his hand a quick squeeze.

"The Grounders will be back." Octavia says to us all. "So we need to go, now."

"Yes, we do." Finn agrees.

Bellamy, Octavia and I head over to him and converse quietly. Finn needs to continue on to the camp, Monroe and Mel need to go back to the Ark. Talk about things not going to plan.

"Octavia says the arrow might be poisoned." Bellamy explains to Finn. "I have to take them home."

"I know." Finn hands Bellamy a copy of the map.

"I'll meet you as soon as I can."

Finn nods again, "I know," then walks away.
