Chapter 10: One-on-one

(next day eli is already in school)

Eli's pov:

I'm sitting in my 2nd period with jack next to me. we're holding hands under the table and playing footsie. After a few minutes, the phone rings and the teacher goes to answer it...

Teacher: "eli, your dad is here"

I'm confused but i pick all my stuff up and whisper in jacks ear that i'll text him and go to the office.

I'm jsut curious which one it is. it probably isn't dad but i dont-

oh it is dad. He has a smile on his face for once.

Nick: "•do you have all your stuff?•"

eli: "•was i supposed to?•"

Nick: "•yes..?•"

Oh my bad, i walk back out of the office pack my stuff and head back. He thanks the ladies in there and we walk to his car.

Eli: "•dad what are we doing•"

Nick: "•it's a surprise•"

a surprise? i think he has the wrong kid for that then.

We don't talk in the car but he plays some playlist with a few good songs that i like.

(after 15 minutes)

We pull into a parking lot and when i look up it's a-

Eli: "•the arcade?!•"

he chuckles and looks at me

Nick: "•i thought we could move our one on one time to today, especially after yesterday•"

i smile and thank him. he smiles back and gets out the car yelling-

Nick: "First one there gets more points!!!!"

I sprint, did not win, and he assured me we'd share two cards

(after getting cards)

Nick: "•alright what do you wanna play first?•"

Eli: "•mario kart•"

Dad gets a big smile on his face like he's reminiscing in an old memory.

Eli: "•you wanna share with the class?•"

He starts walking and he tells a story-

Nick: "•your dad and i played this all the time as teens. the first time we hung out at my house we played mario kart and had a little snow day. that's before we really started dating though•"

Eli: "•and how old were you?•"

Nick: "•i was 16 and your dad was...never mind•"

Eli: "•no go ahead•"

Nick: "•14•"

Eli: "hmm •interesting•"

Nick: "•let's talk about that later, right now let me beat you at mario kart•"

He laughs evilly and puts the card in for the game.

I sit down snd we pick our characters and cars.

Nick: "•what map?•"

i look at all of them and pick the bell cup.

3...2...1...GO!

(last round of the last race)

I'm in 2nd and dad's in 1st! we have a few seconds until the race ends and someone in the back hits him with a turtle shell and i win!

I wave my arms around in victory. i lol over at dad and he's laughing

Nick: "•okay well i was sabotaged•"

Eli: "•yeah okay dad•"

i chuckle and after a second we go play our second, third, and all the other games we can.

(after all points ran out)

Nick: "•alright we have 200 tickets, you wanna get something?•"

Eli: "•oh yeah sure!•"

I pick 2 things out and we still have tickets left over but i think it'll be best to save those for when we come back.

(back in the car)

Eli: "•so are you taking my back to school now?•"

Nick: "•fuck no. you aren't going back to school all day today. We are gonna get breakfast•"

I feel a smile creep across my face and a text in my pocket.

I pull my phone out and see jack texted me-

'hey baby, hope everything is okay! it's so boring here without you😭💗💗'

i smile even bigger and start to blush.

Nick: "•wanna share with the class•"

Eli: "•nope it's fine•"

Nick: "•come on you can tell me anything•"

Eli: "•it was just jack, he was just making sure i was okay•"

Dad makes a face but i can't read it. It seems kind of angry but in a loving way?

nick: "•you know, i'm not mad. you're 14, your dad was 14 and you guys are the same ages... I just don't want you to make any bad decisions.•"

Eli: "•like you and dad?•"

Nick: "•okay rude but we made good decisions. i just don't want you guys to hanky panky, especially in my house. it's a big step in a relationship•"

Eli: "•omg dad stop!•"

Nick: "•i'm just putting it out there•"

Eli: "•well it's out there and it can marinate for a good 2000 years•"

Nick: "•what did he say anyway•"

Eli: "•jsut making sure i'm okay•"

Nick: "•i pay for the phone, let me see•"

I show him the text and smiles.

Nick: "•sweet. i still want to meet him•"

Eli: "•whatever jsut drive.•"

I bury my face in my hands until i think of something to say back-

'Everything's okay, my dad just wanted to have some father son time. also he wants to meet you formally💗'

Jack: 'oh shit'

(arrived at the restaurant and in the restaurant)

We sit down and talk a little, order, and talk some more. i kinda forgot that underneath all the anger my dad is pretty cool.

(after cuz idk what to do)

We get back in the car and he starts driving immediately. Like we're late to something?

after 30 minutes drive we arrive at some old looking building.

Eli: "•are we at a museum?•"

Nick: "•interactive science museum•"

I light up and get the biggest smile. I love science! i have little kits and stuff but i've never been here.

Eli: "•DAD REALLY?!•"

Nick: "•of course. Now come on, we're gonna be late for the imovie•"

We scurry inside and don't miss any part of the movie.

We look at all the robots and space stuff until 4 o'clock!

We head home and greet everyone.

(sorry i'm losing motivation on this chapter but later that evening)

I'm sitting on the couch and dad comes in.

Nick: "•have fun today?•"

Eli: "•Absolutely!!!! can we hang out more one-on-one?•"

Nick: "•of course•"

He hugs me and kisses my forehead.
