Chapter Two

Reed was glad it was busy at work. They had had three elementary school field trips plus they found out their prized female ape Sarah Jean was finally pregnant with a baby. Although it  might be a difficult pregnancy for her. She had lost three babies prematurely. Sarah Jane was his favorite of all his charges. He hated to see her in any type of discomfort. He would never tell Theo but when he looked into her beautiful kind gentle brown eyes he was reminded of Theo. He didn't think Theo would appreciate being compared to an ape. He was glad he was busy because he was still worrying about Theo. At least work took his mind off it.

It was halfway through his shift that he found time for a break in the employee break room. He sipped at a cup of black coffee he had grabbed out of the vending machine and checked his texts. He smiled as he saw several from his man. Including a selfie of Theo holding up a bottle of water with the text " See I'm getting my hydration, Captain Worry Pants ". Rolling his eyes, he quickly texted back," Good boy. I'll reward you tonight with a BJ. " His phone quickly responded back with Theo's text reply of " If I drink two do I get two BJs ? "

A couple of his coworkers were sitting at a nearby table and looked up smiling when they heard him laughing. Gabby Hernandez said ," You must be texting Theo. How is he? "

Reed sighed. " Still getting over the flu. I wanted him to stay home but he's being stubborn today. I'm surprised he's not more concerned himself. With Theo a simple cold becomes Ebola. "

Gabby laughed. " You gotta love him. "

"I do. I'd be lost without him. "

Then Reed's phone rang. The ring tone he'd programmed just for Theo. The Boy Is Mine. Funny. They usually just texted during work hours. He answered quickly. " Theo , everything ok? "

It wasn't Theo's voice he heard though. It was Theo's secretary Martha Jones. She sounded more excited than usual and there was worry in her sweet high pitched voice. " Reed , he passed out. Not his usual passed out. He's unconscious. I called 911. They're coming. "

Reed stood up. His hand started shaking. His heart was beating faster than normal.

" Reed ," Martha said.

" Reed ," Gabby said," you ok ? "

Reed didn't answer either one. He hung up the phone and took off running out of the room.

He needed to get to Theo. Now.
