Reed had been in surgery for what seemed like hours. All his family and friends could do was wait. And worry. And pray.

Theo sat in his bloodied tux between Charles and Matt , holding both their hands. Winnie sat cross-legged at Theo's feet with Dennis beside him , holding him. A really pissed looking Ryan and a devastated looking Saint stood behind  Theo.

Cassandra and Malcolm had taken their terrified grandchildren back to their house.

Darren was in a hospital room , staring down at his still pale faced trembling wife Grace who held their premature daughter Theodosia Reed Van Owen.

Cynthia Fisher sat away from her new son in law. Her stern dark brown face seemed older than sixty something. Her hands were shaking. She stared at Theo.

" He'll be ok ," Matt whispered to Theo. Theo tried to pray but all he could see was his husband stepping in front of him.

Stepping in front of a damn bullet.

He suddenly stood up and went over to Cynthia. Reed's mother. His mother in law. They stared at each other.

" Your son loves you. He wants you in our lives. I want you in our lives. You hurt him so badly by rejecting him. " Theo might have been wrong saying all this but he didn't care. " You hurt him. He forgave you for your hurt. I may never forgive you for how you treated him. He's the most loving man in the world. "  He reached for her hand. Surprisingly she didn't pull away. " Please forgive Reed for whatever you think he did wrong. Please go back to loving him. "

The older Black woman stood up , still holding Theo's hand. " I never stopped loving him. I just have been a fool. A silly old fool. I'm sorry I missed the wedding. I'm sorry. I don't want to lose my son. Again. I don't want to lose my son. "

She started to cry and Theo held her as she sobbed.

Then the surgeon came in to the waiting room. He wore blood stained scrubs and a serious expression. " Is one of you related to Reed Fisher? "

Still holding Cynthia, Theo said ," I'm his husband. Theo Walton - Fisher. "

The doctor smiled at him. "It was touch and go. The bullet was very close to his heart. But he pulled through fine. I have a feeling your husband is quite the fighter. Once he's settled in ICU you can visit him. "
