It had been very late when Theo was finally released from the emergency room. The outcome was not good. After waiting hours for the biopsy to be performed they had again waited for Saint to bring them the results. When he did Theo was texting with Grace about what food to serve at the reception and Reed was pacing back and forth in the too small space. The moment Reed had seen Saint's serious face he knew. He knew. And he wanted to beat something. He wanted to rage and scream and break things. He wanted to punch the wall. This should not be happening to Theo. It should not happen to anyone but especially not Theo. Not to the kindest , gentlest , sweetest man alive. Not to the man who was Reed's life. But he needed to stay strong for Theo.

Theo had been quiet and still scrolling through a wedding website even as Saint talked.

It was cancer. It was leukemia.

Saint was going to refer Theo to a local oncology doctor named Walter Edison. Saint said Edison was the best in his field. He sounded very certain and confident about that.  Luckily it was considered to be a chronic leukemia, Saint explained patiently, not an acute one. It would progress slower and be easier to treat. Theo had an appointment with the cancer doctor tomorrow morning and Saint advised that most likely he would be starting a round of intense chemotherapy soon. If the chemo worked at killing the cancer he'd be home free. If it didn't work he would have a bone marrow transplant with the best candidate being a blood relative.

" It looks like it was caught early," Saint had said. " So there's hope. Please believe me when I say there's hope. "

Theo kept looking at wedding flowers as Reed took Theo's medical paperwork which contained the discharge papers and an appointment card for Dr. Edison. Theo hadn't said a single word.

Saint looked at him and Theo for a long time. Then he slipped one of his business cards into Reed's hand. On the back he had scribbled a phone number.

" That's my personal cell. If you need anything or just to call I'm always available. Good luck. To both of you. "
