HIS WRATH

Jon was drawn out of his sleep with a rough shake of his shoulders.

“Get up! Can't you see we’re about to die?!"

Jon squinted through the darkness of the inner parts of the ship. He recognized the intruder. It was the captain of the ship, and the alarmed look across his face was enough to spike fear in Jon’s heart. He sat up in the hard, lumpy bed.

“What do you… ?”

His words were lost as he was thrown off the bed and sent crashing against the opposite wall as the ship tilted dangerously.

Jon groaned in pain. He could already feel a bump growing at the back of his head.

“What is going on?" he asked, eyes wide in alarm. The ship kept tilting dangerously, water splashing in through the open door.

“Huge storm," the captain replied as he lifted a heavy looking wooden chest from a compartment Jon was just realizing was there. The captain looked up at him with crazed eyes. “I don't think we're going to make it."

There were shouts and cries coming from the deck, barely heard against the crashing of waves against the ship.

A cold feeling ran from the top of Jon’s head to his feet. This was his fault. He knew. Yah had found him.

But he had run so far? How… ?

“The others are calling on their gods. Nothing is happening so far. You should call on yours too. Maybe he can save us. If not, we’re all doomed."

But Jon knew he couldn't. He had offended Yah, The Almighty, The One who created heaven and earth, The One who had formed man out of dust. It took all of Jon's self-will not to wet himself.

“What… What are you doing with that?” He stuttered as the captain staggered towards the door with the huge chest in his arms.

" We need to reduce the weight of the ship, though I doubt it will help.” the sturdy man replied, murmuring prayers to an unknown god beneath his breath.

Jon remained standing there for several seconds. How foolish of him to think he could've pulled this off.

He should've just listened to the Spirit. He should've adhered to the instruction to go to the North.

How could he have thought he could run from the face of Yah himself?

Now all these innocent people were going to die because of him.

As he was thrown across the ground again, he thought,

‘If I can be given another chance, I will never go against Your Spirit’s leading again’

We all know how it ended, and Jonah was only able to survive by God's mercy.🙏
We should not, however, take this mercy for granted, and strive to avoid incurring God’s wrath at all costs by adhering to every of His instructions and constantly following the leading of the Spirit. 😌
God bless, and thanks for reading🥰
