“Hey, hey, hey," Pleasant,my roommate, snapped at me. “You're disturbing me with all that murmuring."
Yeah, I know.Not very pleasant.
I took a deep breath to calm my already frayed nerves, so I would not say something I would eventually regret.
When I prayed aloud, she would complain. When I prayed Christian music, she would complain, and yet she was so loud with everything that she did. You don't see me complaining!
I hadn't been able to pray right for weeks, and it left me feeling cold, my nerves frayed.
Holy Spirit, please help. I prayed in my spirit.
“I’m sorry," I said in a tight voice.
She just hissed, gluing her eyes to her phone.
I wanted to cry. I was frustrated and tired of having to deal with this.
I threw myself on my bed, turning so my back was facing her. I curled up into a ball.
God, please. You have to help me. I’m tired. Please…
Get up, Rose…
I rose and slipped into my flip flops.
Pick up your bible…
I picked it up. I felt the tug of the Spirit leading me out of the room, and I obliged. Pleasant paid me no attention.
A minute later, I was outside my hostel, following the tug of the Holy Spirit as he led me to the back of the building.
I sighted a corner which a light bulb illuminated. It was silent and bright in the dim light of the evening, cushioned between the white wall of the fence and the equally white wall of the building.
I smiled.
Is this it? I asked.
This is to be our secret place, Rose. A place where you can talk to me without any disturbance…
Tears clouded my eyes as relief flooded me. My plea was heard and now answered.
Thank you Jesus
I practically ran over to my new secret place. It was so inviting even though it wasn't much, and You were there.
I bared my heart out , letting my tears fall as I let You know of all my frustration.
I knew at once that my prayer life was being fanned to flame again in this place.
