Samantha💫

I look over at the clock next to my bedside table and it reads 7:35 am. A huge part of me wishes the dream would've lasted longer. There were more questions I wanted to ask him! I immediately feel the need to share what I had just discovered with someone. I grab my phone and send a text to Abby.

"Could you come over sometime today? Something crazy happened to me recently and I'd love to tell you about it."

I anxiously wait for a response hoping that she's already awake. I could barely contain my excitement as I recall the vivid details of my dream. The soft grass that tickled my feet as I walked through it. I could even smell the sweet floral scents from the white flowers in the field.

I hear the vibration of my phone and notice she replies back.

"Give me a couple hours and I'll be over!"

As soon as I read her text I shoot up from my bed and head over to the bathroom. I look at my wild hair in the mirror and the coffee stained uniform I still have on. Luckily she's giving me a couple hours to prepare because I look a mess.

I take a hot shower, change my clothes, and brush my teeth. As I'm walking to the kitchen I notice a couple pieces of trash on the floor next to trash bin. It's never one hundred percent clean in this house, I know I need to get better about picking up after myself.

Since trash is piling up in the kitchen I decide to take it out to the bigger bin in the backyard. I step outside and into the bright sun. As I'm loading the bag inside the bin I see small crumbs of dirt on the concrete next to me. My eyes follow a trail of dirt that leads towards the window that peers into the kitchen.

I analyze the yard for anymore evidence that someone else has been poking around. After a couple glances I notice shoe print marks in the dirt near the fence. I look around and feel an instant worry that someone has been watching me.

Someone's watching the house!

I quickly head back in and lock the door. I grab the marker on the fridge and immediately write on the magnetic white board next to it.

Install security cameras.

As creepy as it is, I know there's nothing I can do about it. I could go to the police but there's not much they can do if I don't know who it is. I have practically zero proof.

I shake it off and continue with the rest of my morning. I decide to make a couple of eggs and toast for breakfast. I take my routine medication, and eventually find something on tv to watch. After finishing an episode of friends, I hear the doorbell. That means Abby's here!

She embraces me with a hug immediately when I open the door and I lead her towards the kitchen. She has come over my house a couple of times since we first met, so she makes herself comfortable at the table and we make small talk for a little. After a couple minutes of us talking I start to bring up the news I've been dying to tell her.

"Hey remember how we were at work last week talking to that airline pilot? Eventually he asked if you ever wanted to travel and see the world one day?" I asked

"Yeah Sam, I've always wanted to go and visit different places and wish you would come with" she said excited but clearly confused as to where I am going with it.

"Well I technically just traveled to several different places in a dream actually. It was the most fun I've had in a while and wish you were there to see it"

"That must have been some dream " she laughs off what I said thinking it was a silly dream.

"Abby It was magic actually. Real magic. I met a man in my dream and he showed me things. He's in the background of all the dreams we have but we just don't notice it."

She looks confused at me and worried.

"Sam are you sure you met someone?" She asks.

"I did and I know this sounds crazy. Just hear me out okay? He told me he's never talked to anyone before. I'm the first person that's ever noticed him! I wonder how long he's existed for."

She pauses and squints her eyes. "So... you're telling me there's a man you met. A powerful man that does magic tricks?"

"No Abby, not tricks! It's hard to understand because you weren't there. If you could've seen the things I saw you would know yourself, It was real." I say In hopes she can feel how excited I am talking to her about this.

"Let me see if I understand this correctly. Only you can see this magical man?" She questions

I press my fingers into my forehead and laugh a little.

"You probably think I'm crazy" I say feeling defeated.

"I don't know sam, you're probably just dreaming crazy things! You think there's this mystical person that showed you something special. You know dreams can be eccentric, it could be your imagination!"

"Forget it, you're right it's just a silly dream" I say trying to brush it off but I know it wasn't just a silly dream.

Abby glances at the writing on the white board then looks back at me to confirm.

"Security cameras?"

I stand up and walk to the back door, motioning her to follow me with my hand. She follows as I lead her towards the dirt in the yard.

"Over there are footprints and the trail leads towards the window" I say hoping she understands someone is watching me.

Immediately Abby takes out her phone and takes pictures.

"Just incase you ever want to show the police one day, now you have pictures!" She says as she sends me the pictures through text immediately.

After another hour goes by and we're done catching each other up, she stands up from the chair at the kitchen table. I can tell from her body language she's ready to leave.

"I know it's hard not having your mom around, but this is a nice neighborhood! I'm sure you're safe here, and once you get those cameras set up you should feel even safer." She says as she grabs her coat before she leaves.

"Hey, thanks for coming to see me today. Sometimes this house is so empty. It's nice to have someone else to talk to. "

She smiles and responds with, "That's what friends are for. I'm always here for you, girl"

After she leaves out the front door, I locked the door and slowly slide my body down until I'm sitting on the floor. My head leans against the door and my mind begins to wonder.

Why does it feel like in such a big world full of people I can feel so lonely and misunderstood?
