There's an hour left before we close and I find myself talking to Henry. He's got the most beautiful crystal blue eyes. I often catch myself just getting lost in his eyes every time we talk.
"You know, I thought about what you said the other day." I say with a smile on my face, glancing over at Sam before turning my attention back to Henry.
Henry returned my smile then replies, "Does that mean you'll take me up on my offer?"
"Well...it would be fun." I playfully say dragging out my words slowly. I take a couple seconds before I give him a response keeping up the anticipation.
"Only if I can bring Sam with me." I suggest in hopes he'll understand my nervousness.
"You're more than welcome to bring a plus one." He says calmly.
I nod my head and say, "Then let's get out of this town!"
I've never done anything as spontaneous as this before! There's is something about Henry- something in the way he looks at me, like he actually sees me. It's terrifying and also exhilarating all at once.
Henry takes his phone out of his pocket and slides it over to me. "You should put your number in my phone, and I'll text you when I get home."As I'm placing my number in his phone I think to myself how crazy it is that our first date is this adventurous. I've never met someone who's willing to get to know me before.
He brings out his wallet opening up a section full with cash. He places his money down on the table and stands up from his chair. His height towering over me as he gently embraces me with a hug.
"Keep it." he says before he walks off
I pick up the money and notice it's a hundred dollars worth. He always orders the same single cup of coffee, and our prices are reasonable. He could've just handed me five dollars and waited for his change. But no, he had chosen to leave me a generous tip.
I slightly shake my head and place the money in my pocket. I reach to grab my phone to check the time. There's only ten minutes left until we close! I glance around the cafe to check if there's anything left to do for the night. Everything is restocked, all of the tables are wiped down, and the bathrooms are clean.
The only thing left to do is sweep the floor, but there's still a woman sitting down in one of the tables typing away on her laptop. It feels rude to just stand here and watch. I don't want to make it seem like we're just waiting for her to leave!
I head over to her table and approach her with a gentle grin.
"Did you need anything else before we close? Maybe another coffee?" I suggest looking at the empty coffee cup that sits in front of her.
She barely looks up, her focus is glued to the screen.
"No thanks, I'm all set." she replies, her fingers never leaving her laptop.I politely smile, scooping up the empty cup. As I'm walking through the double doors leading towards the kitchen, I notice a big puddle of water on the floor. I step around the puddle but still manage to slip on the stray drops that had spread out onto the tile.
I steady myself and bring the cup towards the sink station in the very back. Sam is standing there talking to one of the bakery chefs. When she notices me she immediately heads towards me.
