Shadows of the Dream Realm

Overseer💫

Samantha's eyes widened with a mixture of hope and confusion washing over her. For a moment, she stands froze by n in shock taking in every detail of the dream. I let her take all the time that she needs in order to fully digest what she sees.

"She looks different" I hear her say as she hesitantly walks toward her mother. Samantha slowly stretches her arm out, reaching to touch her.

Her hand flows through her body as if she just touched a cloud. She attempts to grab her hand and again her hand falls through her mother's figure.

"Is this an illusion?" She asks confused.

I can see the small frustration on Sam's face begin to build. With an earnest smile I say, "I did not conjure this for you, this was a dream that I saw not too long before you came back to the realm."

All within minutes her expression and emotions have changed. She looks at me with a hopeful smile and says, "She's actually alive!"

There's so much excitement flowing from her that the energy in the realm begins to shift. The ground beneath us shimmers, causing ripples of light to spread out like waves in a pond. Im amazed by how connected Samantha is to the dream realm.

Does she even notice it?

"I have to find her! I need to know where she is." She says pacing back and forth.

She stops in her tracks suddenly. Her excitement is slowly fading and the light beneath us dims to dark shadows.

"If she's been alive all this time, why hasn't she reached out?" She says with disappointment on her face. I watch her carefully, and analyze how her emotions are influencing the dream realm.

"This whole time! While I've been grieving and picking up the pieces, she's just been living her life?" She questions.

"I wish I was able to tell you more Samantha, I can only show you what I've seen." I say calmly before snapping my fingers and conjuring a peaceful meadow.

Samantha sits down in the grass, and as she looks up the blue sky above us I notice the pain in her eyes. I sit right next to her and glance up at the sky with her.

"Ive spent years trying to move on from her death. Now that I know all of it was a lie, I wonder what else did she hide from me?" She wonders.

" I hope that you find the answers you're looking for one day." I say in response.

"I don't think I'm strong enough to even comprehend why she never came back home." She says.

"Samantha, I've watched over this realm for eons. I have seen dreams of all kinds. Dreams born from joy, and those steeped in fear. I've stood silently in the shadows of nightmares where creatures lurk in many forms."

I pause, searching in her eyes for understandment and clarity. "What intrigues me more than these dreams, is you. What you've brought forth is different. My home is responding to you differently than it does for me! You are strong. You're a very powerful person!"

As my words hang in the air she deeply meets my gaze. For a moment it's as if the weight of the conversation dissolved into peace. I can feel something deeper emerge inside of me, an emotion I never acknowledged until now.

The warmth of her presence becomes brighter and more intense than it's ever been. She absentmindedly reaches out to the grass and beneath her fingertips a beautiful flower blooms. The pedals on the flower slowly unfurled as we both take in the moment.

The petals are a vibrant shade of red and gold, and the beauty of it washes over both of us. Samantha smiled shyly, and the both of us are memorized by it.

"I didn't mean to..." she began, but the words faltered as she looked back at me.

I pick the flower from the root and place it into her hand. Our fingers lightly touched as we both admire the beautiful flower in her hand. Although the gentle touch was brief, it felt electric.

"You have a way of making the realm come alive" I say with a smile.

Before we are both ready to say goodbye, she falls out of the dream room and back into her reality. I know I'm going to feel the same way every time she leaves.

What did Samantha call it? Ah, Yes! I'm going to miss her.
