I brush my hair as Bridgette rolls her eyes.

"I cannot believe you're actually doing this." she frowns.

"What a great friend you are!" I say sarcastically.

"Do you know how upset Duncan will be?"

"He won't be upset at all. He doesn't like me and the same goes for me to him." I shrug as I apply a layer of mascara.

"Courtney, I'm your best friend, and as your best friend I'm telling you not to go through with this!" she shouts, practically begging.

"It's too late." I huff.

Scott asked me on a date, yes, a real date- not some crappy hang out with Duncan sneaking around and making fun of us.

So of course I said yes. I like him.
I told my parents I'd be going on a date with said neanderthal, as one who is in a fake relationship does- and they believed it.

I'm meeting him at this restaurant, not very fancy, I believe- but nice regardless!

Okay, it's not a restaurant.
We're meeting at the beach.
I hate sand. But how was he supposed to know?

"What do you even like about him?" Bridge rolls her eyes as she grabs the hairbrush out of my hand and starts untangling my hair for me.

"He's nice..." I start, but I realise that's pretty much it. "Umm... he's cute!" I smile.
"He's hardworking..." Bridgette gives me an unconvinced look.

"Look, I like him- okay? And there's nothing you can do about it!" I huff as I get up and grab my purse.

I pat down my long green dress and wipe off a clump of mascara that was stuck to my under eye.

"I just don't think you two are meant to be!" Bridge shrugs as she leans against the wall.

"And who decides that?" I growl.
"You, I guess." she mumbles.

"Goodbye!" I say, walking out to the hallway- but quickly realising I don't have a ride and turning back.

"Wanna drive me there?" I smile.

DUNCAN TARUN

Music played from the two sand-covered speakers as Geoff rambled endlessly about Bridgette.

"Okay, okay- we get it." I run a hand over my face.
"Am I boring you?" he says sarcastically.
"Actually, yeah- you are. I'm sick of all this love-talk." I groan and down my beer.

"Okay then. Your turn." Geoff grins as the whole group turns their heads.
"My turn? At 'love' talk?" I raise an eyebrow.
Geoff just looks at me knowingly.

"Oh. Oh no. I'm not in love with Courtney." I roll my eyes.
"I never said anything about Courtney!" he shrugs, smiling.

I sigh and shake my head.
"You've got it all wrong about us. In fact, there is no 'us'." I glare at DJ and Alejandro, who are smiling a little too much.

"You guys are seriously annoying." I say as I walk away.

"Hey, where you going?" Geoff shouts.
"A walk!" I shout back.

It was like 5:30PM, so the sun was already going down.

A loud rumbling noise that could only come from some old car filled the air.
