Nobody expected the king of Mobius to die so suddenly.
But he did.
The queen had just announced her pregnancy, when the king died of heart failure. The castle was silent for weeks, but the queen was still happy knowing that she had hope on the way. At least she was.
A wizard had barged into her room and warned of a prophecy that had to be fulfilled. She had to give up her three children and send them down separate rivers.
"This can't be! Why? Why must I give up my children?" She sobbed that night. She knew it was for her kingdom and the safety of her children but it hurt her. In just the matter of a couple of months she lost almost everything.
And so she went into labor, and one by one the three were born.
The first one was a pink hedgehog, a girl the nurse stated. She had amber eyes and was just beautiful. She reminded Aleena of herself,
The second was a green hedgehog, a boy. He also had amber eyes like his sister.
But the last one.
The queen felt ashamed to say the third one was her favorite.
He had green eyes, just like his father, and the same royal blue quills and fur. This child, unlike his siblings, did not cry. He was silent at birth.
The queen kept her children for 2 days, spending every minute with them in hopes that they would remember her, though she knew they would not.
And so one by one she sent her children down separate rivers. First, as she shed tears, she sent down the pink hedgehog, named Sonia, down the Monte River, in a small basket. She did the same to the green one, Manic, down the Rai, and last her youngest, Sonic, down the Charisa. She silently wept as the guards escorted her back to the castle.
And all the kingdom knew were that there were children of prophecy sent down the rivers that night.

Sonia let out a sigh as her mother instructed her to do another pirouette. "Haven't I done enough already?" She asked, holding onto the bar, standing on her toes painfully. "You won't become a professional ballerina if you don't practice, sweetheart." Madam Veronica hummed, watching Sonia closely. The thing was, she didn't want to dance. She wanted to play piano.
The way her fingers could softly grace the keyboard and suddenly a melody was formed, it amazed her. Dancing, on the other hand, did not. She had strict diets, her feet hurt 99.9% of the time, and she felt like a puppet. She was only 6 and yet this was her life. Strict routine and dancing.
Not to say she didn't love her mother, her mother had given her everything. A home and love, even when, from what she was told, she just appeared on a river one day. It took much courage and strength to take a child off a river and take care of them, especially during her mother's predicament at the time. She had just divorced and was poor, but somehow after she adopted Sonia her life changed.
Sonia partially believed it was because her mother made her dance for the public.
She sighed, and began her pirouette. She was being ungrateful. She needed to toughen up.
She needed help.

Manic panted as he ran from the burning orphanage in sector 5. "Everyone, follow me!! Alex- Alex, no! Don't touch that rock!" Miss Elinor yelled, leading a line of children as quick as possible. Manic's eyes burned as he carried one of the newborns, not being able to rub out the dust and debris. "Hands on the neck and bum, don't forget. It'll do you well, hun." Miss Elinor had told him one time, as the did their monthly fire drill. Manic never thought it would be reality, all he knew was that some mean fat guy attacked their sector.
He didn't remember much from when he was younger, or how he got to the orphanage. That was 6 years ago, though. The nanny's told him they found him on a river, but that was hard to believe. It was the only story he had ever been told, however, so it was what he had to believe at the time. The line of children finally made it to a clearing in the sector over, and Manic set the baby onto the ground, and furiously wiped the dust from his eyes. The baby cried out, and Manic tried wiping the dust from the baby's eyes as well— to the best of his ability, anyways.
"Manic, dear, are you okay?" Miss Elinor asked, carrying the infant from the ground. "Mhm...." He mumbled, his eyes drooping shut. He felt quite sleepy.
"Manic, Manic? Manic!"
Maybe he could take a nap.
"MANIC!"

Sonic giggled as the flickies and him raced through the green field of grass, the sunflowers flowing through the field. "You guys are really fun!" He exclaimed, his voice traveling through the wind. He had been at the field for as long as he could remember. Which was only 6 years, but that felt like a long time! He fell to the ground, giggling sporadically. He stayed there for a while, admiring the yellow flowers that lined the ground while the flickies chirped and sat on his head.
Sonic sniffed, smelling an odd smell in the distance. It was like smoke, but Sonic didn't really know what smoke smelled like. The smoke rose, until some red thing came onto the grass. Sonic backed away immediately, shielding the flickies as they chirped in confusion. "U-Uhm.. hi... who're you?" The flame whipped up, and Sonic backed away more. "M-My name is.. uh, Sonic.." He frowned for a moment, "not quite sure how I know that, actually. Jus' have some necklace that made me think of that.. weird, huh? A-And, I dunno how I know how to talk either!! Must've learned it somehow.. hehe..." He rambled on, as the magic flying thingy spread, and spread, and Sonic began to notice the grass was turning black, and disappearing.
Sonic curled around the flickies, scared the flame thing would hurt them. Well, when it got on him, it hurt a whole lot. Sonic ran away, but the greenery just got covered in the red flying thing and he didn't know what to do. He decided to keep on running with the flickies until he reached a metal looking establishment. Sector 11 was written on a sign in front of it. "U-Uhm.. I think this is safe.." The flickies chirped, and Sonic guessed they approved.
He spent 5 years there.
All the flickies died from the smog.
But Sonic kept on believing something good would happen. That one day he would see the grass again. And the flowers. Though that was distant, a dream just out of reach. As he sat in the alleyway of Sector 11 he knew he needed to find a better life than this.
One that didn't include constant hate and death.
