Chapter 13

Several months have passed since he left the crypt. After meeting Arthur and Lancelot and losing consciousness, he was taken to the city where the two knights lived. There he received health care that quickly restored him to full strength.

Roland, because this was a name that Arthur gave him, decided to repay his savior and became a member of the guard of the city of the Camelot, the seat of Arthur and his knights. During these few months, the young man constantly trained and helped the residents, wanting to repay the help he received.

Despite his good intentions, Roland was the object of many unpleasant glances, mainly due to his unusual arm. Arthur's friend and court wizard, Merlin, repeatedly investigated this anomaly, but his research came to nothing. Apart from discovering that it was of magical origin, nothing else could be learned about it.

However, this did not worry the young man and despite many unpleasant events, such as whispers of the inhabitants calling him Demon, he continued to play his role as a guard.

Little did he know that he would soon discover a rather dark possibility in his limb.

It was a normal day. The sun was shining high, there were not so many clouds that you could count them on the fingers of one hand, the citizens were working and living their lives, and the children were happily running and playing. For a sight like this, Roland knew that no matter what, he had to work hard and practice constantly.

He was just coming back from another training session. He and a few other guards who didn't mind training with him had finished their practice for the day and were heading back to the barracks. After washing off all the dirt and sweat, and then putting on armor with the symbol of Arthur's family, i.e. the golden Dragon, the young man went to the headquarters, wanting to see what his assignment was today. He went to the schedule board and saw that today he had a lonely patrol near the forest, the same one he left a few months ago. To this day, Roland is unable to understand the secrets of this place. As soon as he woke up after losing consciousness, he told Arthur and Lancelot what he remembered. The lord of the castle sent a scouting party to the forest, but to the young man's surprise, they found no tomb there, even when he went there himself with another group. Originally, many believed that Roland was lying, but Merlin quickly confirmed that his words were true, because he could feel some strange magic there. For this reason, entry to this forest was banned, saying that it was haunted. The only people who can enter it are Roland and the court wizard.

After seeing where he was supposed to go, the young guard just sighed and went to get his weapons. After strapping his sword to his belt and making sure his bow and quiver were secure, Roland went on his patrol.

For the next few hours, Roland wandered around the forest, watching for any threats. Additionally, he began to think about what he had learned about the land he was in. According to what Merlin and Arthur told him, he is currently on the planet Albion and the continent of the same name. These are located in a dimension called the Netherverse, and its inhabitants are called Nethers or Netherlings. Although the aesthetics of many worlds bring to mind ancient or medieval civilizations, they have quite developed technology that allows them to travel between planets or fight with rifles. The only reason why their aesthetic still resembles the old one is the culture that the Nether Empire instills in its subordinates.

As soon as he mentioned Empire, he felt a little angry towards them. As far as he knows, the entire Netherverse is under their control and they rule with a rather heavy hand, but they allow many planets to have their own autonomy and independent expansion, unless, of course, it involves attacking other Imperial planets.
