"Everybody alright?" I asked the group, eyes stuck on my mother who's staring at me with sad eyes. She looks so pale and thin, it's as if she lost half of her original weight since the last time I saw her.

"Yes mi grand baby, ago wet up mi foot and go put on back mi clothes" grandma Lola said before walking in the direction of the sea side.

Watching her walk down to the beach, I paused to admire it for a bit. This is probably the prettiest beach i've been to in a while I can't lie.

Turning my attention back to the other members of the trip, in-laws and all. They all gave a reassuring answer along with a smile, all except my mother.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" I motioned for her to follow me as I walked along the beach.

Before she could get a chance to speak I had one think to ask her. "Why?" I kicked the sand as we walked to the barred off side of the beach.

"Giselle..first of all i'm sorry for lying to you over the years. I'm genuinely sorry, after your father left I was heartbroken because deep down I hoped he would've chosen to stay instead of leaving us" she softly spoke.

"Giovanni was all I knew at first, we met at a party that I went to over a summer break where I should've been getting ready for UWI. Tings got out of hand and you know....9 months later- don't get me wrong! I don't regret anything about you, I love you more than anything else in this life" and to that I smile.

"Anyways, there was never a point where Gio wasn't there, he was there before you were made and was still there AFTER you were made. But as you would've known, things went downhill in 2008. I'm hoping he would've explained that to you" she hesitantly spoke.

I simply allowed her to speak as we walked along the beach, only offering a smile or nod when necessary.

"Deep down I knew the time was winding down for him to leave because he had already explained everything to me- that a time would come where he'd have to return to Italy to carry on his father's legacy"
