I was awakened by a *bang!* followed by shuffling around the house. With a jolt, I sat up in bed, heart pounding in my chest.

"A wah this pan the doll?"

The sound echoed throughout the quiet space, sending shivers down my spine.

For a moment, I lay still, listening intently, hoping it was just my imagination playing tricks on me or it was simply a dream. But the noise persisted, growing louder with each passing second.

Gripping the edge of my blanket tightly, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up, my bare feet meeting the cold tiles.

Lola woulda cuss me bout wearing socks or bed slippers and fi stop wake up and step pan the cold ground.

The house was silent now, the only sound being the rapid thumping of my heart. I hesitated for a moment, debating whether to investigate like a white person in a movie or to stay put and call for help. But curiosity propelled me forward.

"Curiously kills the cat"

Creeping out of my bedroom, I moved cautiously down the hallway, my senses on high alert.  As I reached the top of the staircase, I peered down into the darkness below, straining my ears for any sign of movement.

Suddenly, a faint shuffling sound reached my ears, coming from the direction of the living room.

Adrenaline surged through my veins as I descended the stairs, one step at a time, trying to make as little noise as possible.

"Giselle gwan back upstairs guh call somebody! you're pregnant for f*cks sake yuh think ya batman!?"

The dim light from the light outside cast eerie shadows on the walls, adding to the sense of foreboding.

Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I paused for a moment, listening closely. The shuffling grew louder, accompanied now by the occasional thud and scrape. With a trembling hand, I reached for the light switch, flicking it on in one swift motion.

Furniture lay overturned, cushions scattered across the floor. The curtains billowed in the breeze. And there, in the corner of the room, stood a figure cloaked in darkness.

My breath caught in my throat as I took a step forward, my heart hammering against my ribs. "Who's there?" I called out, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice. But there was no answer, only the sound of heavy breathing.
