MAE AND ELISA shared a look. They were sitting on the ground. Ayub and Rosh were leaning against a tree while Simon were pacing in front of them. The whole school was preparing to welcome the royal family since Wilhelm had to make a speech in public except that during an argument with Simon, he admitted to him that it was August who had leaked their sex tape.

"What a fucking snake." Auyb declared.

"We always knew August was an asshole." Rosh replied.

      "Yeah, but I meant Wilhelm."

Rosh read out loud from her phone. "Invasion of privacy. Defamation. You know he could be nailed for all of this, right? Plus, you and Wilhelm are minors, so that's child pornography. He could go to prison."

"Do you remember the guys who whipped a freshman several years ago?" Simon asked. "They were, like, nine of them. Two of them had to pay damages. That's it. Wille is right. People like them don't get convicted. They get away with everything."

"Yeah but everyone knows what they did. Don't you want to expose what August did?" Rosh asked.

"The thing is he's from the Royal family. They'd protect him." Mae said.

"But at least people will know he did it." Rosh insisted. "You've got us, Simon. We've got your back. Report him. Then everyone will know what he did."

Mae was sitting between Sara and Henry as they and Simon and Wilhelm were all writing about the book for the litterature presentation.

"You're not canceling tonight, are you? Mom is so glad you're coming home." Simon told his sister.

      "No, I'll be there."

"How are you all doing?" the teacher walked over their table.

"Um, I don't really get this question 'what is the dilemma of the book?'." Henry replied. "I just don't understand, because she's head over heels in love with this girl but she has never really spoken to her."

"Siv? The one Malin is in love with?" the teacher asked.

      "Yes."

"Malin is projecting a lot on Siv. That may be the reason she's in love with her. She thinks she can be exactly who Malin wants her to be." Sara suggested.

"Right. I don't think she's in love with Sid but with the idea she have of her." Mae added.

The teacher nodded in approbation. "And what do you think the dilemma is?"

"That Malin was raised with strong Christian morals that are hard to reconcile with her true feelings. Especially for Siv." Simon said.

"It makes you wish Malin could just ignore them. Her duties and notions about God are not just external. It's partly her fault." Wilhelm declared.

Simon shook his head. "I think she has been forced, to follow those rules. She can't just discard everything she's learned about right and wrong. She does want to change her life, because of what she's learning, through her feelings for Siv. Not everything is bad. And we don't know what happened after the ending."

"She killed herself." Mae said and everyone turned to her.

"What? Where does it say that?" Henry asked her.

"The author, Karin Boye. She killed herself, and it's autobiographical, so..."

"You can use all of this in the presentation. Keep going, you're doing great." the teacher told them.

Henry and Mae shared a smile. Under the table, he gently pushed her feet with his and she smiled before going back to writing.

When Mae got home that night, her brother came running out of his room to hug her.

"I have so much to tell you! A lot of stuff happened at school." he exclaimed.

"Oh yes?" his sister smiled. "You're going to tell me all that."

"You'll tell her during dinner, darling. Go finish your homework first." Louisa said to her son.

He returned to his room and her mother kissed Mae before motioning for her to follow her. Like every evening, they went into the bathroom and Louisa took out the scale.

"I don't want to weigh myself tonight, Mom." the brunette told her.

"Stop, you know it's important. We need to make sure you don't gain too much weight."

"I won't. Please, I want to be able to handle this on my own. I know how to do this. Trust me for once, please."

Louisa looked thoughtfully at her daughter for a moment. Seeing that Mae wasn't planning on getting on the scale, she sighed. "Okay. I'll let you handle yourself for a month. If at the end of this month, I see that you don't know how to control yourself, I'll take things back in hand."

Mae nodded. Deep down, she knew it was already a small victory.
