An extended vacation back home, on the beautiful island of Saint Lucia, would sound perfect to anyone who needed an escape. Unfortunately, for the diabetic doctor, Candy Williams – this thirty-year-old charismatic British-St. Lucian – a caramel black woman, was on duty twenty-four-seven in Angel's Clinic. Seated in her office, going through patients' files and appointments for the early morning schedule was burdensome. The ticking from the clock pinched her soul. She sighed before admiring the magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower from her window – working in Paris was extremely exciting and exhausting. Unlike London, which was busy and cold, Paris came alive with compelling sensations and aromas of baked pastries and lovely cuisines. Being a single–sophisticated woman in the city of love was depressing.
However, Candy had other things in mind rather than romance; her patients' lives matter and she was determined to find a cure to eliminate diabetes for good in the human race. Candy left her office, heading straight to the examiner's room to meet her first patient of the day. It was none other than Maiko Nakamura – a Japanese high school teacher. She was already seated at the examiner's table, finely dressed in a plaid t-shirt and red jeans while reading a health magazine.
"Hello, Ms. Nakamura!" Candy greeted.
Her shy demean disappeared. "Hi! How are you doing, Dr. Williams?"
She was also a regular patient.
"Good, are you ready for your check-up?" Candy asked.
Maiko smiled with her head up, placing the magazine aside, and answered, "Most certainly, Doctor!"
"Okay, I've brought in your test results," Candy mentioned.
"Is it something to worry about?" Maiko questioned.
Candy shook her head, gesturing for her arms and she folded up her sleeves, extending forward.
"Oh no, after your check-up three days ago, your sugar levels seem about average. But I recommend you drink plenty of water; your body seems to lack it. You could collapse from dehydration, Ms. Nakamura?" Candy explained. "And I don't want to lose a good friend like you."
Maiko nodded and smiled brightly. "I'll definitely consider doing that, and besides, I'm not going anywhere; you promise me you'll be dating again, and I found the perfect guy for you, Candy."
Candy had liked Maiko as a good friend. She could talk to her about anything, but going into the dating field was off-limits at the moment.
"Maiko." She dropped the formalities. "Let's reschedule this for another time, I'm booked with patients. My only free hour is at seven; by then, all I want to do is watch Mars Bell and NC Comics' series while eating popcorn and drinking rum punch." She thought, 'Before dreaming about some guy chasing me with roses.'
Maiko laughed, "Oh my goodness, you are going on this date! It's at Carmon's Café at seven. Take it or leave it; if you don't want to be like the cat-woman, an old lady with a bunch of horny cats high on tuna crack."
Candy erupted with laughter at Maiko's weird logic, but in reality, it hit her harder than stone.
"Whatever you say, I'll be there. What's the guy's name anyway?"
"Wade Lee, he's my cousin's good friend. They work together at a three-star restaurant called Overlook. This guy owns the joint, Candy, and he's a freaking billionaire; in charge of the auto-mechanic enterprise."
Candy's eyes widened. "Sounds too fake to be true."
"Trust me, Candy. He's nothing but fake. He's real alright," Maiko assured.
