"Dad?" Georgie called from the dining table to her father at the cooker.

"Yeah?"

"Can we add Jake to the family group chat? Celeste is on there."

"Yeah, go right ahead."

Georgie smiled at Jake, pulling out her phone so she could add him to the haineses.

"How long have Debbie and Celeste been together?" Jake asked. Debbie was Georgie's older sister- between Deborah and Georgiana, they often liked to joke that their parents had a thing for long names. Especially because they shared a middle name, Josephine, after their grandmother.

"Um, like three years, maybe?" Georgie responded. "Maybe four actually. It's really hard to tell, because, you know, we've known Celeste since I was four and she moved in next door."

"Here's the lasagne," Ed announced, placing it down on the table. "I'll just go and grab the garlic bread."

"My favourite joke is that Debbie always used to insist that she'd never be one of those girls who fell for the boy next door. So she fell for the girl next door instead. I hope they get married so I can tell it at their wedding."

"Odd motivation for a wedding, but okay," Jake laughed.

"Well, obviously I want them to be together forever and stuff, goes without saying."

"Whilst we're on the topic," Ed broke in, "I have one question for you, and then that's the last you'll hear about it from me forever. A couple of guys were talking about it earlier, and it got me thinking. Do I have any hope of grandchildren?"

"Not from us, dad," Georgie smiled. "I'm not giving up my career, and I'm not hiring someone else to take care of my children."

"Completely valid reasoning," Ed agreed.

"Maybe Debbie and Celeste will adopt?" Jake offered. "They're kid people, right? Celeste works in a school."

"Maybe. Can I get anyone another drink?"

"I can drive, if you want." Georgie nudged Jake.

"Alright then, I will have another beer, thanks. Awesome lasagne, by the way."

"It's Georgie's mother's recipe, God rest her soul."

There was silence for several moments, until Georgie, ever the people pleaser, broke it.

"Are you coming to the beach tomorrow, dad?"

"The beach?"

"Uh huh. Maverick's taking the whole squad to the beach to play football. Team building."

"It's sort of become a tradition," Jake explained. "He did it before the last mission. And afterwards we spent a good couple of days at the beach. It basically started because me and Rooster hated each other, and Rooster and Mav hated each other."

"Rooster? That's the Bradshaw kid, right? You seemed pretty friendly yesterday."

"Yeah, we're cool now. I'd even call us friends. The football worked its magic."

"I see," Ed said. "Well, I have a lot of work to do, but maybe I'll see about dropping by."

"Please," Georgie begged. "You have to."

"I'll see how my day pans out."

They were meeting at the beach for 09:00, but at 06:15 Phoenix sent a message on the Jonas brothers group chat (consisting of her, Lainey, and Georgie, another awesome trio): everyone meet at laineys in an hour

Within seconds, Lainey responded: u cant just invite urself over to my house

Phoenix shot back: look do you want our help to pull coyote or what

Lainey: not really no

Phoenix: yes u do. we're coming over.

"What's this about, exactly?" Georgie asked, amused.

"Lainey and Coyote are going to get together today if it's the last thing I do," Phoenix insisted. "Lainey, find your most flattering leggings. Georgie, if that's your change of clothes, I hope you're dressing hot."

"I always dress hot, I'm actually incredibly vain."

"Why does it matter how she dresses?" Lainey asked.

"Because the cheerleader effect is real, and we're going to use that to our advantage," Phoenix explained. "Now sit down and let me do your hair."

"I don't understand why we're doing this," Lainey complained, but sat down anyway.

"It's going to be sunny, and everyone will be shirtless, and you're good at football. You're going to be so attractive he won't be able to resist confessing his feelings to you. Unless of course you feel like promoting feminism around these parts and approach him first."

"So, since you said, 'if it's the last thing I do', does that mean we have to kill you if it doesn't happen?" Georgie teased.

"Preferably no," she sighed. "I'd quite like to get picked for this mission the day after tomorrow. By the way, do we know the sleeping arrangements for the carrier?"

"Why? We'll be together anyway; the rooms go up to six and there's only three of us," Georgie pointed out.

"I know that, it's more for the guys- Bradley asked."

"No idea. Lainey?"

"Not a clue."
