The structure of the aircraft carrier was such that they heard all three aircraft land, and they got up and went to meet them on the runway.
"Alright?" Georgie asked Lainey, once she had detached herself from Coyote.
"It was fine. Nothing I couldn't handle."
"You could handle anything," Georgie grinned, pulling her in for a hug. "I love you, Lain."
"Aww, I love you too, Gigi. Do I detect a hint of relief that I'm not dead?"
"Are you kidding? Who would get all of my random pop culture references if you died? You're my best friend, you're my pal. You're my homeboy, my rotten soldier. You're my sweet cheese, my good time boy."
"Alright Laszlo, calm down," Lainey laughed.
"Lainey, you're the Colin Robinson to my Laszlo Cravensworth," Georgie smiled.
"Bagsy Nadja!" Phoenix broke in from behind them.
"Of course, my darling," Georgie agreed, slinging an arm around her.
"How come you get to be the horny British dude, anyway?" Lainey asked.
"Because I said the quote," she replied simply.
"The horny what now?" asked Rooster, who had evidently been behind Phoenix.
"Georgie's the horny British dude, I'm his unhinged Greek wife, and Lainey is the deathly boring office worker who came with the house," Phoenix explained.
"Right," he nodded unconvincingly.
"Nat, get your boyfriend some culture," Lainey sighed. "Then he can be your Gregor."
"Who's Gregor?"
"My lover."
"That's alright then."

Now that the mission was over, Lainey was relieved to find out that they'd only have to spend one more night on the aircraft carrier. At dinner that evening in the ship's mess Georgie dragged everyone over to sit with Bob and Danny after the latter waved at her when she entered the room.
"I hear you managed to crash an F-18," Danny grinned at Georgie.
She nodded. "Flaw in one of the turbine blades."
"Honestly. I leave you to your own devices for what- a month? And you go straight to smashing up navy property."
"That's not the worst bit. I pushed Warlock over the edge, he's on sick leave."
"I did wonder why I'd been seeing Haines senior around the place."
After fifteen minutes, a whole group of deckhands came in and the mess got quite loud, the joy at another successful mission reverberating off the walls and echoing around the giant metal tank that was the aircraft carrier.
"Are you okay?" Jake whispered, leaning over to Georgie who he had noticed get rather quiet.
"Too loud," she muttered in reply.
"Are you done eating? Here- I'll take our plates back and then we can do a runner, alright?"
She nodded, and he grabbed her plate, stacking it on top of his and sliding off of the bench. Within a minute, he was back, offering her his hand, and they walked out of the mess hall together.
They weren't allowed up on the deck in the fresh air for safety reasons, so they just wandered around the corridors, searching for the places further down in the depths of the ship that were cooler and quieter.
"This time tomorrow, we'll be home," he assured her.
"Jake, there's something I wanted to ask you," Georgie said.
"What's that?"
"Well, I was thinking that whilst we're stationed in the same place for a bit, we spend so much time with each other anyway that it kinda makes more sense for us to move in together. I've slept at your house more than mine in the last week. Only if you want to, obviously."
"I'd love nothing more," he smiled, kissing their entwined fingers, "than to wake up next to you every morning that I can."
"I love you, Jake."
"I love you too, Georgie. Now, which way is it back to our quarters?"
"It's this way," she determined, pulling him down a corridor.
"Are you sure?"
"Not entirely, but I wouldn't mind getting lost with you."
