There's two different types of D.I.D (Dissociative Identity Disorder).

1) Covert D.I.D
2) Overt D.I.D

Covert D.I.D is camouflaged. It means it's not noticeable and not easy spotting the symptoms. Most people have covert D.I.D while a minority have Overt. Alters coexist as one in real life and often the alters acts as "the host - the person or alter that is out the most / dominant personality". However you can have covert D.I.D but may have some alters that's overt too.

Overt D.I.D is the opposite of covert. It means it's noticeable symptoms and by family members too. It's something of a stereotype if people assumes every person with this disorder are all overt when that's not the case. You can blame that on the portrayal in media. Overt D.I.D may have symptoms that fit under "the stereotypes" but it's still usually misunderstood and misdiagnosed. Someone can have Overt D.I.D with covert alters too.

Someone may have a mixture of both. Every person is different and complex. The same goes for O.S.D.D.

Both types are important.

In movies like "split" or the series "moon knight" it shares some symptoms or scenes that happens in real life that can true.

In movie "Split" it may not be the great representation portraying the disorder but there's multiple things that's shown in the movie that can be true

In movie "Split" it may not be the great representation portraying the disorder but there's multiple things that's shown in the movie that can be true. In the movie, the alters had different sense of style and fashion. That's true and it happens to people but it's important to know alters can also not dress distinct and may dress the same or similar as you. In the movie, it also shares how alters had different tone of voice or accents, alters may have those too but alters may also all sound the same.

It shows too that all alters Had different names, roles, ages, gender and beliefs. Important again to know there can be alters with no names, ages, gender etc or similar to you or others.

The movie describes how the alter kidnapped the girl. Disorder or not, anyone is possible of doing a crime but it's important to know alters Are more likely to hurt themselves.

What you need to know any movies or shows that is based off D.I.D, most often it's explained from a cinematic perspective. It's meant for people to enjoy it but what you should remember is that the people living and struggling with D.I.D or O.S.D.D is a real disorder And shouldn't be seen as something fun or quirky. The disorder is a survival coping mechanism. The media representation is usually not accurate. It's always best to do your own creditable research.

But can there be toxic alters? Yes there can be toxic alters and it's everyone's responsibility taking accountibility for each other's actions. The disorder isn't an escape for your hurtful actions. It's not something to be glorifying it too. Talk to a close family member or a friend if you think any of you or your alters are putting you in a dangerous spot.
