Can You Look My Way?

C15 - She's back

In front of the hospital gate, my feet were stuck frozen on the ground. Two coffees in my hand and I bet they're cold. It's Monday. Workday! I'm sure he is there! I wasn't able to ask his schedule nor his phone number but he said just see him so I am!

Abruptly, I inhaled, summoning up the strength to lift my damn foot but I'm being pulled back, stomping in frustration. I should just freaking go home!

The thought of going home left my body when I suddenly heard a whistle. I look at the direction it was coming from and I saw a man in uniform waving at me as he gets closer.

"Young lady, are you one of those people who plays statue until someone drops a penny?" he asks, a smug on his face.

"Say what?" I snapped, raising an eyebrow.

"You've been standing on the same spot for nearly 15 minutes, lady."

"I'm here to visit someone!"

"Seems to me like you're contemplating on a murder."

That's it! I released a sharp breath, my other hand rested on my hip now.

"Assumptions! I was only hesitant to visit an old love!"

I froze realizing what had just blurted out of my mouth. The man's grin says it all. In hope to regain myself, I cleared my through and raised my chin up. He doesn't know me and he does not know who I'm talking about. I should be okay!

"Now be on your way, lady." He motioned his hands in mid-air, his palms open to show me the way.

"I know the way!" I snapped, glaring at the mister as I finally make my way inside the hospital ground. "No way to turn back now. I'm already here."

At the receiving area, a nurse asked me if I was there for a check up and I told them I was there to visit a staff named Leo. Instantly, they told me he should be at Dr. Kamiya's office.

"We actually need to call in first and see if he's there," said the nurse, "by the way, are you related to him?"

"No," I awkwardly chuckle, "I'm an old friend. We were in the same class back in Highschool."

The nurse gasped, covering her mouth and my eyes widened, stepping back. What's with the reaction?

"Oh, I'm sorry!" She did a little slap in the air, smiling cheekily. "You must be 'the girl'! You can sit and wait. I'll ping him for you cause he can be anywhere sleeping."

I wasn't sure what she meant by being "the girl" but I faintly smiled before turning to take a seat at the lounge. Since when was Leo interested in working in a hospital? Then again, I barely ever know him.

As the time passes, I couldn't help myself but kept my sight on the elevator. Any moment now, when those doors open, it could be him. But then my gaze were blocked making me raise my head.

"You really... came." He was still catching his breath but what I noticed was how his eyes squinted when he smiled. "I hope I didn't make you wait that long."

Just what curse did he put on me that my tongue is tied and my mouth is left agape? I grabbed a cup of coffee, extending it to him. Though he stared at it for a moment, he took it.

Speak up, stupid! Keep it damn cool!

Cool?! I shifted my eyes at him and saw he just took a sip from the cup. I knew then this visit was going to be the death of me!

"I bought that 40 minutes ago," I stated.

He chortled, covering his smile with the back of his hand.
