The two of them sat at their table alone again, biting into their sandwiches.
"That drawing was really cool. Who knew you could draw, Lacey," Nicky said, still chewing her sandwich.
"That fact wasn't included in any news articles?" Lacey asked.
"Nah," Nicky said, shaking her head. "At least not in any of the ones I read."
"How many did you read?" Lacey looked questioningly at her friend.
Nicky shrugged, "As many as I could get my hands on in here."
"Why?" She hadn't thought Nicky was going to be one of those who read everything about her and memorized her entire life story, including all those random people Lacey could hardly remember the names of.
Nicky swallowed before leaning back. "Do you know the dude Kieran Quincy?"
Lacey was shocked to hear that name coming from Nicky, and she didn't even bother to hide her surprise. She hadn't heard that name in years, and it definitely wasn't a name Nicky had read in the news. "How the fuck do you know that name?"
Nicky leaned forward again, lowering her voice. "A buddy of mine used to get his shit from Quincy's guys." Nicky explained, "I read in an article that one of Quincy's guys Marco was going down in your case, so I got curious."
"Why the fuck were you getting involved with Betty gangs?" Lacey asked incredulously. Nobody in their right mind got involved with drug dealers from Lacey's old neighborhood. Everyone knew they were too dangerous and not worth messing with.
Nicky waved her hands defensively. "I didn't know where they were from."
"Did your buddy know?"
"Yeah. He introduced me to Quincy after like a year."
Lacey's eyes widened again, "You met Quincy?"
Nicky nodded, and then said, "I met you too. That's the real reason I read so much about you."
Lacey thought for a moment, trying to see if she had any recollection of meeting a redhead with crazy hair. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah," Nicky nodded, "It was at a party in that warehouse in the Betty that Marco had invited us to."
Lacey laughed, "Well, that's probably why I don't remember. I must've been drunk as fuck."
Nicky shook her head, "I'm pretty sure you were the only sober one there."
Lacey's eyes furrowed, but her eyes lightened up when she realized what party Nicky was talking about. "I remember that party!"
Nicky smiled. "Well I was really drunk and heading to the bathroom to throw up and you and this dude were standing in front of the door yelling at each other."
Lacey remembered that night perfectly. She had been arguing with a boy named Drew who had almost overdosed two days before and then promised Lacey he would try and get clean, only for Lacey to find him taking heroin that night. She had brought him into the bathroom hallway because it was the only quiet place in the building. Drew had been one of her closest friends back then, and she smiled at the memory of him, before realizing she had no idea what happened to him.
"Anyways," Nicky continued, "I think I asked you to move and you said something like 'Shut the fuck up, yuppy bitch,''' Nicky mimicked, rolling her eyes mockingly.
Lacey paused for a second, and then remembered the moment she had said that to the short drunk redhead and cracked up, Nicky soon laughing just as hard.
As they were recovering, Morello's Italian accent interrupted, "What's so funny?" Her face seemed friendly, but her voice seemed slightly angry. She almost seemed jealous she wasn't involved in the fun.
