Still having half an hour until Lacey had to be in the dining hall for dinner, Lacey had stopped by the bathroom and was heading back to the dorms. She walked down the crowded hallway, with one earbud blasting music into her ear.

Lacey had only been working for two days at electrical, but she was already relieved it was Friday and that she would get a break from Luschek for two days. Also, after being tense the entire day that the screwdriver she had hid yesterday would be found, she was happy to be finally out of that room.

She was looking into the window of the commissary, looking at all the things she couldn't wait to be able to buy once her money came through, when Vause's voice called her name. She looked up, finding the tall woman standing in front of her.

"What?" she said harshly.

Crossing her arms, Vause said, "I see you've been becoming quite close with Piper since our chat yesterday."

Lacey smiled meanly, "Jealous?" she quipped. She leaned forward, whispering into Vause's ear. "I made her come in the bathroom this morning," she said, unable to stop herself from taunting Vause. Lacey leaned back, satisfied with the disgust she saw on Vause's face.

"Fuck you," Vause said, shoving Lacey as she walked past her.

Lacey laughed to herself, turning around to find Nicky in front of her leaning against the wall, raising an eyebrow. "You got beef with Vause or something?"

Lacey shrugged, and said half-sarcastically, "I don't think she likes me."

Nicky scoffed, "You think? She hates you." When Lacey only nodded and continued walking, Nicky stayed next to her. "What'd you do? Vause doesn't normally hate people so much."

"She doesn't trust me."

"Why?" Nicky asked.

"She's just one of those people who don't," Lacey answered nonchalantly.

"Well, why?" Nicky repeated.

Lacey sighed, growing frustrated. It shouldn't be this hard for Nicky to figure out. "Because they hear my past and decide I'm a bad person."

"Can't blame them," Nicky commented, scoffing.

Lacey stopped suddenly, whirling around so she was facing Nicky. "Excuse me?"

She couldn't say she really disagreed with Nicky, so her reaction was probably a little unwarranted, but she had known Nicky for less than a week, which was definitely not long enough for Nicky to be making comments like that about Lacey's past.

Nicky held her hands up, laughing awkwardly once she realized she had hit a nerve. "Woah, sorry, I didn't mean it."

Lacey huffed, walking away faster than she had been before. "Then don't say it."

When Lacey didn't hear a response from Nicky behind her, she turned around, finding that the short red-haired woman had left.

Lacey felt guilty immediately, hoping she hadn't ruined her friendship with the person who had been the most friendly to her. All the people she could consider her friends in prison she had met through Nicky, and not to mention not being close with her roommate could be awkward.

When she arrived at their cube, she was relieved to not find Nicky inside, and hoped she wouldn't have to see Nicky until dinner, when they were surrounded by enough people where they could make up without actually talking about it, which seemed like the kind of forgiving that someone like Nicky would be more interested in.

She opened the notebook Nicky had gotten for her, deciding sketching would be the best way to think about something else, especially if she didn't draw something related to prison. She chose to draw Tanner, who she couldn't believe she had gone four days without seeing and who she was counting down the seconds until Sunday visitation hours for.
