You were sick, not mentally, physically.

You had to go to a therapy session with Dr Kinbot at Jericho yesterday, but luckily for you, you had decided to take the bus over rather than having Principal Weems drop you off because the doctor had suggested you try to get more out in the world to get a sense of how busy life can be due to your anxiety, and you stupidly went along with it.

The weather forecast that morning said it would be sunny with a chance of rain, however when you stepped foot out of the office building it was raining cats and dogs. So, you figured that once you got to the bus stop that'll be you would head back to Nevermore to get nice and snug in your dorm room where you could continue with life as usual.

That was not what fate had in store for you, the buses were cancelled since the roads to Nevermore from Jericho were country roads, and with the heavy rain the town didn't want to risk a bus getting stuck in the middle of a narrow road and be unable to move, so you had to walk 45 minutes alone in the rain, completely unprepared with no umbrella or raincoat to protect you.

So now you had a common cold, the symptoms were the usual for any cold, it just felt a lot worse because of how long you were out in the rain last night. You were stuck with a chest cough, one that made you feel like you were going to explode any second whenever you had to hack or wheeze, your whole body would wrack as you got cold shivers down your spine, hot flushes randomly, dizzy spells if you moved your head or got up too fast. Sneezing was either a blessing or a curse, sometimes it'd relieve your stuffy nose, but most of the time it would only make it worse. You were either in an icy or flaming hot sweat, there was no in-between, and you felt suffocated due to how blocked your airways were.

Y/n's POV

My head was killing me, Mr Smith kept droning on and on and on about the Civil War, his words were going through one ear and out the other, my brain felt foggy and clouded, and the only thing I could make out was the ringing and then my history teachers voice in the background, although it was drowning itself out the longer I was stuck staring at my desk in a trance. I could feel the drool pooling in my mouth, but somehow, it never fell past my lips.

The urge to cough hits me like a bullet train, so I quickly bring my handkerchief up to my mouth, using that to catch my disease-like germs as I feel the burn in my throat afterwards. I let out a heavy sigh as I rested my forehead on my arms that lay folded on my desk, wishing I were back in bed, but unless I had a sick note, I wasn't allowed to take a rest day from school, and I was far too exhausted to go to the nurse's office.

I look up when I feel my elbow being poked with the back of a pen and meet eyes with Yoko, my best friend here at school besides Enid. She had her sunglasses on, but I could tell from the small frown on her lips that she was worried, "You alright?" She checks in on me, trying to keep her voice as low as possible so we wouldn't get Mr Smith on our backs.

"Yeah..." I grumble as I run my free hand that wasn't holding my handkerchief through my hair, "I feel like shit," I utter under my breath, but the rasp made my voice do a slight whistly squeak, which alerted 'Mr can't shut up'.

"Is there something you and Ms Tanaka would like to share with the rest of the class, Ms L/n?" He questions with a firm glare as she lowers his too small to his face glasses as he looks at us.

"No Mr Smith," we both say in unison as we both sit up, fixing our posterior as we pretend to look down at our notebooks. He then huffs to himself, muttering something about how kids can't appreciate good monumental history before returning to his lecture.

Class ends and I sluggishly place my arms through the straps of my backpack and follow behind Yoko out the door, I greet her goodbye as she had Vampire P.E, which is just an obstacle course in the dark, it's supposed to help Fangs strengthen their night vision perk. I have to dodge and weave myself from bumping into people, but the one person that I don't try to stop myself from nudging shoulders with is Enid, she automatically grins when she notices me, but it falters quickly when she sees my sickly pale complexion and the daze in my eyes as I slouch as I walk.
