Chapter 3

Lessy heard rumors about the disappearance of young women in Sarayakishi city from her middle school classmates, and one of them claimed that the vampire was responsible for the missing women.

"Lessy, what do you think of something like this," one student named Kenji asked.

Lessy looked at him and said, "Perhaps they moved to place where they feel safe?"

"No way. That's no fun. We're talking about alien abduction, ghost stories, or maybe when they became one of Dracula's brides."

"Hardly, Kenji. They're just movies and books. There's no such thing as vampires," Lessy said. Then she starts looking at Shuichi as he heard about those rumors, too. After Lessy learned about the Maya incident a few weeks ago, she's afraid to tell him about her secret and thus ruined their friendship. So, she decided to keep her distance for their best interest. Shuichi Minamino must not know that Lessy Nixon is the Daywalker. However, she couldn't keep her secret for long.

'So, the vampire is more likely to steal women right off the streets at night recently. This is rather troubling. I need to find out where the vampire had taken them so that I would know what I'm up against,' Lessy thought as she walked into the empty hallway to her locker room. The sun is setting down, which means those night creatures will be awakened soon. Suddenly, Lessy sensed a vampire coming towards her with a menacing look in his eyes.

"Lessy. I'm going to kill you. This night will soon become our new turf," the vampire said as he ready his weapon.

Lessy glares at the vampire as she knows who it was, "Sadouki. I told you that night to leave this city or you'll pay with your life. You must have forgotten about how I've beaten you, and your life has been spared. But I guess I've underestimated your stubbornness."

"You half breeding bitch!!! I have a new ally who wants to kill you as much as me!!! I will have my revenge and this city will be mine and there's nothing you can do to stop it, Daywalker!!!

"Is that so," Lessy said as she grabs her pocket knife that was laced with garlic poison from her skort. Sadouki charged at her to try to rip her throat out, but Lessy dodged his attacks with ease. She then backed him to the wall and stabbed Sadouki in the heart with her pocket knife, watching his body disintegrate into a pile of ash.

'This is weird. Why would a lower class vampire confront his would-be killer and announced that he had an ally wants to kill me? Regardless of the outcome, I would have no choice but to fight not as a human, but as a Daywalker who rules the night,' Lessy thought.

"Lessy? Is that a vampire? The one I just saw you killed? I didn't want to believe at first, but I now know that vampires run this town as well," Shuichi said as he saw the whole thing that had transpired.

Lessy turned around in shock and saw Shuichi standing right behind her, "No, Shuichi. Your eyes are just playing tricks on you." 'I was afraid of this. Shuichi might not want to be friends with me because I'm a freak. But being around me for so long must've increased his sense of awareness.'

Shuichi walked up to Lessy, "Lessy, please don't lie to me. I know what I saw earlier. I'm quite curious about why didn't you tell me about this sooner? I knew there's something different about you the minute that we've embraced a month before. So you do smell human, yet you smell like a vampire as well. Are you one of them?"

"Yes and no. I'm a dhampir. I have all of their strengths, and my one weakness is my bloodthirst. I'm only doing this to save people. So that the city needs to be safe. You'll probably think I'm a freak now," Lessy looked down on the floor, ashamed for not telling Shuichi about her secret life.

Shuichi cups her chin with his index finger and his thumb and proceeds to lift her head up, "I think nothing of the sort. In fact, I wanted to be closer to you, Lessy. I want to tell you something about me as well. My full name is Youko Kurama. I'm a fox demon that merges in this human body. There are some things that I'm not proud of in the past, but I'll be looking forward to what it is in the future. If you need anything from me, please let me know, and I will help you."

Lessy blushes as she looks at Kurama. Moments later, Lessy and Kurama were walking down the street towards the hospital where Kurama's mother, Shiori, resides.

"So you had no idea about who I really am, Lessy," Kurama asked.

Lessy shook her head, "I never really asked about it. I was so focused on my patrols, Shiori, and everything else. Even if I knew who you are, I would never judge or treat you any differently."

Kurama stared at her in awe. 'I'm falling  for her even now,' He thought.

Lessy asked, "Kurama? I was just wondering if you would like to come spend some time with me tomorrow after school?"

"That would be great. I love to, Lessy."

"Awesome! I can't wait," Lessy said as she grabbed Kurama's hand, "Oh and by the way, you might want to have a chat with your friend, Hiei."

Kurama looked at Lessy in shock, "When did you see him, and what do you mean by that?"

"Please tell me you didn't just meet her through her window with nothing but her t-shirt and her underwear on two nights ago, Hiei," Kurama asked as he palmed his face with his hand.

Hiei was looking away now, blushing after he realized what he had done, "Hn. I didn't know that she was changing at the time. I just wanted to ask her questions, okay?"

"Lessy would've killed you without warning, have you not blocked her attacks," Kurama said as he shook his head in disbelief, "Her father trained her to be a hunter for a good reason."

"So, she's a vampire huntress and an army brat. Interesting."

"Next time, just tap her window or knock on her front door, Hiei."
