Chapter 5

Kurama is worried. Like extremely worried. It's been 3 months since Lessy went missing. The last time they spoke to each other is at the night of the school dance. She never leaves without saying anything, let alone without her father.

Her father knew that something was wrong when Kurama informed him that Lessy had disappeared. He called the only other person who knew Lessy the most: her best friend, Mina. Mina knew right away and flew out to Sarayakishi city to start investigating.

Mina searched everywhere in the city for a week, and then she spotted an abandoned hospital with suspicious activity. She armed herself with her naginata named Serenity and was ready to strike when she learned that Lessy is in that building somewhere. However, a chameleon demon named Zuzima ambushed her before she proceeded any further.

Zuzima injured Mina before she took off. She ran as fast as she could to find a hiding place from her pursuers. She lowered her spirit energy so that they couldn't reach her. Mina thought she was safe behind the bushes when suddenly she felt two demonic energies walking past the direction of her hiding place. She had her suspicion if they're going to catch her off guard, but she knew that she's ready for anything.

"So, you still haven't found Lessy at all, Kurama," Hiei asked.

Kurama shook his head, "It's been 3 months, Hiei. She never dropped off the face of the earth without saying anything. I'm scared of losing her when we just made our relationship official."

Hiei looked at him, "You want to interrogate that Kenji guy? I believe he's been hiding something."

"Kenji would've known about Lessy's whereabouts. She told me that he was upset about her rejecting him."

"Let's find him and make him talk."

Hiei and Kurama stopped and sensed an energy that was unknown to them. They drew their weapons and ready themselves for an attack. They quickly dodged an ongoing attack, and they both turned to their attacker. They saw a young woman who is 4ft 9, violet eyes, and long black hair with green streaks. They both knew that she was not normal.

"At least you two can dodge better," she said and attacked them again. Kurama and Hiei blocked her attacks once more and most likely tried to tear down her defense. She was a very formidable fighter in Hiei's opinion.

"Wait a minute. You two are not the same youkis who are after me? The ones who were sent by Zuzima," the young woman asked after she clashed their weapons with her naginata.

"Say what," Kurama asked, "Zuzima? Here in this city?"

They both lowered their weapons, and the young woman still armed herself.

Kurama started to approach her, "Lower your weapon, friend. We lived in this town, nothing more. You said that Zuzima is here?"

The woman breathed heavily, "So you not the ones he sent after me. If he did, then I'll be in serious trouble."

Kurama and Hiei looked down on the ground and saw that wet spots were dripping from her body.

Hiei smelled it right away, "Kurama, that's blood." The two demons ran towards the young woman after she fell to the ground, fainted from her adrenaline.

The young woman woke up a few hours later and saw that her wounds were healed quickly along with her energy.

"Hn. I see that you recovered from your injuries after Kurama patched you up. A few hours of sleep is enough for you, isn't it," Hiei spoke while he's leaning against the wall next to the window.

Kurama looked at her as he sat next to Hiei, "While you are sleeping, you've muttered out the name.'Lessy'. Kurama saw her flinch when he said her name, "I'm very convinced that the way you've reacted indicates that she's alive and knows exactly where she is."

Hiei stared at her, "And judging by your injuries, you've been there before and were ambushed. You were foolish enough to know better than to rush to get to Lessy without a plan or strategy."

The woman glares at them after she dressed herself, "You two really are a bunch of annoying, arrogant, and nosy bastards, aren't you? What's it to you, anyway? Why the sudden interest in Lessy?"

"Lessy is my childhood friend and now currently my girlfriend. I couldn't help but need to find more information on Lessy's whereabouts. She seems to be important to you as well," Kurama responded.

"Yes, Lessy is my best friend, and we've been in contact on the phone until 3 months ago. After you told her father, he asked me for help and hoped that she's not in some sort of danger. Now that I'm healed and know where she is, I'm bringing her home," she said as she grabbed her naginata and headed towards the window.

Hiei stopped her, "You're not going back out there, are you? You're neither a human nor a demon. Lessy is my friend too, but she never spoke to us about you. Whatever you are, your eagerness to rush after her will only get you killed."

"Hrmph. Speak for yourself. Your kindness would have gotten you both killed because I would've killed you both as a thank you."

"And yet, you did not. The three of us are very close to Lessy, and we need to find a way to rescue her," Kurama said.

The woman walked around Hiei and opened the window, "I can handle this situation alone. Strategize all you want, you cowards."

"Very well, we're not going to stop you, friend, and you are going to need all the help you can get. Perhaps you could at least tell us about your name."

"My name is Remina, but you can call me Mina," the woman named Mina said and swept out the window of Kurama's residents.

Hiei looked at Kurama after Mina left, "So, that's Mina. I've heard rumors about her in Demon World. She can wipe out vampires and demons with ease."

"Yes, and that mark on her left side of her abdomen glows purple while she was healing. This can only mean one thing: It seems that our new friend Mina is a Nephilum," Kurama replied.

Hiei smirked, "So the legend is true." They both heard the house phone ringing downstairs.

Kurama walked down the stairs and answered the phone, "Hello? Minamino resident."

"Hi, Shuichi. It's Suriko, one of Lessy's classmates. I know that we haven't talked before, but I have the information that you've been looking for. Kenji doesn't want anyone to find out about this, but I believe I know where Lessy is," Suriko said on the phone. Kurama's eyes widened when he heard the news. Suriko continues, "Shuichi, whatever you do, please bring her home safely."

Moments later, Kurama and Hiei jumped from one roof to another to locate Mina. 'I hope we're not too late,' Kurama thought as he and Hiei found Mina on the roof, honing Lessy's energy.

Mina paused and looked back at the demon pair, "So the two chickens left their nest."

Kurama responded, "As I said before, you need all the help you can get."

Hiei jumped from rooftop to rooftop along with Kurama and Mina, "It's Lessy's classmate. She held out the information for months. She's one of that Kenji guy's accomplices."

Mina scoffed, "Now suddenly, she feels guilty because she did what her crush told her to do and betrayed Lessy's trust? I hate people like her."

Kurama raced on, hoping that he could have Lessy in his arms once again.

'Hold on, Lessy. We're coming for you.'
