In the morning, Ash and Alice start their day with the familiar routine of checking the news. They're caught off guard when they see Queen Ilene of Rota making headlines, accompanied by a photo of Ash in his lab fellow attire alongside Professor Cerise, Goh, and Chloe. The words "Crown Prince Ash" stand out prominently, followed by the intriguing addition, "Rota's Next Ruler."

As they gather in the living room later on, Ash finds himself surrounded by a mix of nostalgia and surprise as all his former travel companions and rivals who remained loyal to him are present. Even Goh, who had been busy exploring the region in search of Mew, has made it back.

"Goh, when did you get here?" Ash's curiosity bubbles as he greets his friend.

"I arrived yesterday. Had to visit my girlfriend first," Goh replies casually, earning a nod of confirmation from Chloe. "But I heard some interesting rumors about you on the way."

"Yeah, it's a bit unbelievable, isn't it?" Ash chuckles, trying to process the sudden turn of events.

"Unbelievable is an understatement. Crowned Prince Ash, huh?" Gary interjects, his tone a mix of disbelief and amusement.

Ash feels a pang of injustice as he reads the news, realizing that his family's absence from the coverage makes it seem like he's the sole focus of attention, especially as the so-called criminal who supposedly killed his mother. He knows this could escalate into a larger mess for him.

"It's fortunate they've mentioned your innocence. That might cast some doubt on the old accusations," Paul remarks, trying to find a silver lining.

"True, but I can already see the complications... like those inevitable marriage contracts," Gary chimes in, his tone serious with a hint of concern.

"That's only if you decide to reveal your identity. But Gary's point is valid. Since the news implies the coronation hinges on your presence in Rota to claim the throne, they'll likely expect a Crown Princess as well. In other words, your future wife," Dawn adds, her pragmatism cutting through the tension.

"I don't see why that should be a problem. I already have someone in mind," Ash responds, glancing at Alice, who blushes in response.

"We kinda overheard your intimacy from your room earlier," Mark teases with a grin. "You guys weren't exactly discreet."

This revelation causes both Ash and Alice to blush furiously, their embarrassment mirrored by laughter from the others in the room.

As they arrive in Rotaeel City, Ash leads the Champions team toward Mt. Fortana, a place renowned for its intricate mazes and dark, cavernous pathways. "Mt. Fortana, like many mountains and caves across different regions, is filled with twisting mazes. Some of the caves are pitch dark, so we'll need HM Flash to navigate through."

Entering the mountain, they encounter a series of puzzles that test their strength and strategic thinking, including challenges that require Rock Smash and Strength abilities. (Rock Smash is obtained from the leader of Team Rainbow Phoenix in Emerald Forest, while Strength is acquired from the Oceablu Concert, from Jude after watching the concert of the Colors)

They also stumble upon a Regi Temple dedicated to Regirock, hinting at the legendary Pokémon's presence within. Additionally, they come across what seems to be an exit leading to Fiero City, the location of the next gym. However, construction workers block this exit, citing safety concerns about the route's stability. (In the game, this would be explained as workers saying it's unsafe to pass.)

Ash introduces his trusty Eeveelution companion, Zirconeon, to the team. "Meet Zirconeon. The crystals on her head change colors based on her mood. They turn black when she's irritated."
