As they walked through the castle halls, a subtle sense of unease lingered in the air, like an invisible shadow trailing behind them. James glanced over his shoulder, his senses on high alert, as he whispered to Murtagh about the eerie sensation.
Murtagh nodded in agreement, his brow furrowing in thought. "Yes, I felt it too," he admitted quietly. "But in these crowded halls, it's difficult to discern who or what it might be."
As they continued on their path, the presence seemed to dissipate, leaving James and Murtagh to ponder its significance. James couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, even as they approached their room.
"It's strange," James remarked, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've never felt anything like that before."
Murtagh's expression grew solemn as he offered his insight. "It's not uncommon," he confessed, his gaze fixed ahead. "The king has his ways of keeping tabs on me. We'll need to tread carefully and finish our training swiftly."
With a shared nod of understanding, James and Murtagh entered their room, the weight of the mysterious presence still lingering in the air, a reminder of the challenges that lay ahead.
Sleep found the pair shortly after as they quickly showered ate and got changed. James had a restless sleep, his mind clouded with thoughts of home, his friends and what he needed to do to get out of this situation.
As good as Murtagh had been to James, he knew it was not safe to stay with him and he needed to find an opportunity to break-free. James mentally reached out to Astrider, while her mind was still quickly developing, he believed she would understand his plan.
As James and Murtagh entered Graves's house, they were greeted by the warm smile of their mentor. Graves ushered them inside, ready to embark on another day of rigorous training.
"Good morning, my young apprentices," Graves said cheerfully, motioning for them to take a seat at the wooden table. "Today, we will delve deeper into the intermediate use of the ancient language."
James and Murtagh listened attentively as Graves began to explain the intricacies of the language, introducing them to new words and grammar rules. They diligently practiced forming basic phrases, focusing on precision and control.
After a few hours of linguistic study, Graves shifted their focus to physical training. He led them to a spacious training area where they engaged in various exercises to test their strength and agility. From swordsmanship drills to endurance challenges, Graves pushed them to their limits, instilling in them the importance of physical prowess in conjunction with their magical abilities.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, signaling the end of their training session, James and Murtagh felt a sense of accomplishment wash over them.
As the sun rose on the fifth day of their training, Murtagh and James found themselves back in the training area with Graves. Today's focus was on refining their physical combat skills, particularly swordsmanship. Graves, despite being a magician, displayed impressive expertise with a blade, demonstrating advanced techniques and maneuvers to the pair.
James absorbed every lesson eagerly, grateful for the opportunity to improve his combat abilities. However, he couldn't help but notice Murtagh's restlessness. Murtagh seemed to already possess much of the knowledge Graves was imparting, and his impatience was palpable.
Nevertheless, they pressed on, honing their skills under Graves' watchful eye. By the end of the day, James felt a newfound confidence in his swordsmanship, thanks to Graves' expert guidance.
On the sixth and seventh days, their focus shifted back to the theoretical aspects of magic. Gravesdelved deeper into the intricacies of the ancient language, teaching them advanced vocabulary and discussing the nuances of grammar in spellcasting.
