Wednesday. One more day until my new workmate arrives. To be honest I'm excited, if my workmate's a girl we could turn out to be best friends, or if it's a boy we could also turn out good friends. I'm not looking for love at this stage in my life, all I want to concentrate on doing is getting good grades and doing jobs to earn money. I don't always work at my mum's beach shack sometimes I babysit my neighbours. There was this time when Chloe, Kate and I all started this car wash program, we did end up earning a couple hundred dollars, but we were all trying to save up for phones and we didn't have nearly enough. So eventually our business did go broke and we gave up on that idea. Yes, as young teenagers we were all very determined to grow up so fast, now I not so sure.

My alarm buzzes in my ear and I sit up. Yes I now am using an alarm since what happened yesterday. I hit the button and it stops ringing in my ear. I quickly get dressed into some jeans and a top that say summer beach.

I've lived on the beach for longer than I can remember. My parents always used to tell me stories on how they grew up here and that they went to the same school as Hanna and I do now. My parents were high school sweet hearts they told me, they met each other at the beach shack, then they found out they both went to the same school. They both fell in love and started dating almost immediately.   When they were old enough they bought the beach shack and started working at it. They changed it from a surfy beach shack to a restaurant beach shack. They told me it was there dream. Then after they got married and had us they got us to all work at the beach shack. But all of our lives changed when Dad found "the one". I thought mum was meant to be the one, but it turns out not.

My phone starts buzzing on the beside table. I swipe across and read the message.

Tyler: Hey, wakey wakey. I'm waiting outside. 

Alex: Ok, I'll be out there is about 5 :D

I rush downstairs and quickly grab an apple and my bag. I open the front door and see Tyler standing on the footpath beside the road.

"Hey." He says looking up from his phone.

"Hey." I say closing the front door behind me.

"Sleep well?"

"Yup." I say. Tyler leads the way walking down the footpath. I quicken my pace to catch up with him. "Hey, are you all good from yesterday?" I ask. He nods his head then looks back down at his phone. He's playing crossy road.

"How long have you been outside my house." I ask.

"Oh, um about 20 minutes." He replies casually.

"20 minutes? Why didn't you wake me or something?"

"Cause I felt bad." I roll my eyes at his response. I see his character gets squished by a car. I quickly swipe the phone out of his hands. "Hey!" He says. I laugh as I start tapping the screen super fast. His record was only 56, mine is like 400. I hand back his phone and he gasps that I got him a new high score of 189.

"I would have gone farther, it's just that then you wouldn't be able to beat it." I say.

"Yeah whatever." He sighs. I hear a distant ringing, I look up and see that school's bell just went off.

"Quick! Don't want to be late!" I shout grabbing his hand and pretty much tugging him inside the school. He starts laughing.

"I'll catch you after school Alex." I nod my head. We both head off in different directions, we wave each other goodbye as we head into our classes.

"Oh, you and Tyler hey." Kate says nudging me as we both head off to the cafeteria.

"No way, we're just friends. I don't want to get involved with anyone because it will distract me from my school work."

"Ah huh, I've seen the way you look at him, it's just like your parents." She says.

"Yeah and see how they turned out." I say. "You can't trust guys, they'll just crush your heart like my Dad did to my mum."

"Fate Alex, fate. God has a plan, don't you worry." Kate says. Kate's family is a very religious family, her and Chloe go off to Church every Sunday.

"Yeah, well God doesn't want anything to do with me." I say rolling my eyes at her. We enter the cafeteria and the noise is almost deafening. I'm still not used to it after 13 years.

"God loves all of his children, especially you." She says. I grab a tray and we both line up to get our food.

"Yeah well I'm not that religious of a person, so I don't really care what God thinks of me." I say to her in the nicest way possible. Chloe comes out of no where and jumps in the line with us.

"Hey, what up peeps?" She says.

"Don't do that." Kate says scrunching up her face. I nod my  head in agreement. We all start laughing and the lunch lady looks at us weird. That makes us laugh even more. Once we're done getting our food we head to our usual table and sit down.

"So what's the latest goss?" Chloe asks munching happily on her fries.

"Alex is dating Tyler." Kate says. I almost choke on my sandwich.

"What? No I'm not, I told you we're just friends." I say trying my best to defend myself.

"Well I recon he has feelings for you." Chloe says. They both nod there heads in unison.

"Oh God please don't do that creepy twin thing, creeps the hell out of me." I say.

"Come play with us." They both say in unison, coping the twins from the shining's. We all just start cracking up again.

"God I love you guys." I say trying to catch my breath. "So Chloe, how's Jake?" I say.

"Oh my God, I texted him and he says that we wants to meet me at the beach shack on Saturday night!" Chloe says. Kate and I immediately get super excited.

"I'm working at the beach shack on Saturday!" I say clapping me hands. "Kate, you should come too, so we can watch them eat dinner together.

"Ohhhh, yes totally!"  She says. Chloe just rolls her eyes at us.

"You guys better not stuff it up for me." She warns. Kate and I just nod our head not really paying attention to anything she's saying.

"Ok, I better catch up with Jake now, so see you guys later!" Chloe waves goodbye and Kate and I wave back.

"Oh my gosh, this is going to be so much fun." I say rubbing my hands together creepily.

"So did you end up making any friends?" I ask Tyler.

"Yeah, I'm now officially part of Brody's gang." I shudder as he says his name.

"Good for you, I'm happy for you."

"Thanks Alex." He says smiling. The beach shack comes into view as we turn a corner.

"This is my stop, I'll see you tomorrow morning and I will try to get up earlier this time." I say chuckling.

"Ok, see you." He says crossing the road and heading up the street towards his house. I grab the keys out of my bag and unlock the beach shack. The bell rings and I flip the sign over to say that it's open. The clock rings 4 o'clock and I start my long shift.
