Last night I set my alarm to 5:30 so I could actually get up and ready to see Tyler. Almost as soon as I hear the alarm beep I jump out of my cosy bed. I quickly get ready and once I'm done I head downstairs and sit on the couch. I check the time. 6:30. Cool, I have some time to relax before Tyler gets here.

Today is Thursday, after school my mum is going to introduce me to my new workmate. I'm super excited, for his/her arrival because I'll hopefully end up with a new friend to hang with. Suddenly a knock bangs on the front door. I spring off the couch and run to the door. Strange, Tyler is early. I open the door to find Chloe standing there with a wet tissue in her hand. She lunges forward and wraps her arms around my neck.

"Oh my Gosh Chloe what happened?" I say giving her a hug back.

"Casper died!" She wails. Casper was Chloe beloved cat. Chloe adopted him from the pound about 12 years ago, Casper's mother died from getting hit by a car. She was pregnant at the time with a litter of 6. All of them died except for Casper. She raised the cat like he was her own child. His fur was white and black, he had a big black spot covering his left eye, and the rest of his body was white, with a few other black spots. Casper was also deaf, the accident damaged his ears somehow and he was basically born deaf. But Chloe didn't care, she still loved him lots. Unfortunately her parents are allergic to cats so she had to lock him up in his room, she never let him out scared that he would get hurt because he was deaf.

I knew Casper was an old cat, 12 years, but still I was curious.

"How did he die Chloe?" I said trying to be as nice as possible. Kate and I didn't really like Chloe's cat and neither did he, whenever I had a sleepover at their house we would sleep in Kate's room because Chloe couldn't trust us in her room with Casper.

"H-he had c-cancer." She stutters, sniffling in boogers. "I thought he was a-acting strange." She cries. "I should have known Alex! It's all my fault he's dead!" She yells burying her head in my shoulder. I pat her head trying to sooth her.

"Shh, Shh, It wasn't your fault Chloe." I look up and see Tyler walking down the path. His bright blue eyes meet mine and my heart stops for some strange reason. Strange. I wave my hands around the air to try and signal him to go away. He silently chuckles and mouths. "I'll meet you at school." I nod my head and wave goodbye. I watch as he walks down the street towards our school.

I pull away from Chloe to see her tear stained cheeks and blood shot eyes.

"Come on, cheer up, you have Jake to look forward to!" I say trying to distract her. I see her eyes light up but she tries to hide it. "Hey I saw that smile!" I says. She lets out a little giggle as we walk back down to her house.

"Kate come on, otherwise I'm leaving without you." I yell through the almost empty house. Kate and Chloe's parents have already left for work, they trust that we will be at school. Chloe has decided to stay home and watch Netflix all day and I'm tempted to join her, but I can't leave Tyler hanging. Although...

"Yeah, I'm nearly done just have to-" She shouts but I interrupt her.

"Never mind, I'm going to watch Netflix with Chloe!" I shout back.

"Oh wait for me!" She replies. I run up the stairs two at a time until I'm at the top. I walk down the hall until I come to Chloe's room. I open the door and walk into her room, she's holding her teddy bear that her Grandma gave her when she was born and a box of tissues. I look at the TV and see she's put on The fault in our stars. She looks up when I walk in.

"It's not what it looks like, I swear!" She says pulling the blankets over her body. I mentally slap myself.

"You're watching sad romantic films without us." I say. She smiles and I start to climb up the ladder to her second bed. When Chloe and Kate were really little they used to have a bunk bed but then they went through puberty and they desperately wanted their own rooms. Chloe still uses the bunk bed though. I sniff the room, smells like something dead. Poor Chloe.

I get myself comfortable on the top bunk as she turns off the movie and scans through what TV shows we should watch. Just as we're about to pick a show Kate comes in with a bowl of popcorn and white chocolate. I clap my hands.

"You know me so well Kate!" I say. White chocolate is my absolute favourite, I will die after a week without it. She passes up the white chocolate and hands Chloe the bowl of popcorn then takes a seat next to her. Once we're all settled Chloe starts up the day of Netflix. I rub my hands together in excitement.

Halfway through Gilmore girls my phone buzzes. I press the home button on my IPhone and see that an Tyler has texted me. Opps. I look at the time 3:30pm. I unlock my phone and read the message.

Tyler: Hey what happened?

Alex: Sorry had to skip school, cat died.

Tyler: Oh :(

Tyler: Well I'll catch you tomorrow at 7:00!

Alex: Ok, bye!

I lock my phone again and put it beside me. Suddenly it vibrates again. I pick it up and see it's from mum.

M: Remember, your new workmate!

Shit! I forgot all about it.

"Sorry girls got to go!" I say practically jumping from the bunk.

"See you." They say to busy focusing on the TV. I run down to my house to get changed into something decent. Once I'm done putting on jeans and a T-shirt I rush back out of the house and down the road towards the beach shack.

Once I open the door and hear the familiar ring of the bell I sigh in relief. I've always loved it at the beach shack. It takes my mind off of things. I head towards the kitchen where mum is wiping down the benches.

"Hi sweetheart." She says embracing me in a warm hug.

"Hi mum." We both pull away.

"So you excited to finally be working with someone." She asks. I nod my head in glee. "Good, well he should be here any minute."

"He?" I ask.

"Yes, do you have a problem with that?" She says.

"Um, no." I say shaking my head.

"Good." She says chucking me the cloth. "Then you can start work while I introduce him to you then you can teach him what to do and stuff." She says smiling brightly. I smile back excited for this mysterious workmates appearance. I start wiping down the benches as I hear the squeak of my mums thongs walking around the shack. Suddenly the bell rings and my heart starts beating like a drum.

"Hi there." A very familiar voice says. My mouth gaps open as I hear what my mum says.

"Hi, I'm Allison, and you must be Tyler."
