UNEDITED

I jump out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. I don't know why but I'm excited, I mean, why can't I be excited, it's Saturday! Plus Chloe has her date with Jake at the shack tonight. I just hope Brody doesn't interfere with her date.

I grab my phone off the bedside table and rush out of my rooms. I'm about to stomp down the stairs but I stop when I hear someone talking. I kneel down on the top step and realise it's my mother talking to someone.

"I know it's a bit mean." She stops as the other person, who is obviously on the phone to her, speaks. "But she hasn't dated anyone since Brody and you know how that went."

She's talking about me? And my love life? "I had to hire Tyler so she could at least have some boys in her life since she hasn't got her useless father around."

I gasp slightly and anger runs through my veins. How could she? She only hired Tyler so that we would date! She thinks that I'm going to become some loner that has 20 cats! I hold back tears and put on my brave face as I walk downstairs.

"Hi mum." I say. She whips around to face me.

"Hello Alex! Sorry I'll have to call you back." She hangs up the phone and faces me. "That was your Grandma on the phone." She smiles warmly. I nod my head trying hard not to yell at her. I walk into the kitchen and get a banana.

"So are you working with Tyler at the shack today." She asks me. I clench my fists around the banana probably bruising it.

"Yep!" I say putting on a fake smile. I brush past her and head for the front door.

"Alex where are you going at 6am in the morning?" She says. I turn around and face her.

"Just need to get some air." I say slamming the door behind me. I pick up my surfboard that's leaning on the wall and grab my clothes off the rack. Whenever I'm stressed always head down to the beach and surf. When I was little my Dad taught Hanna and I how to surf, I was keener then Hanna because she was afraid of the water and still is today. So you can pretty much call me a pro at surfing. Almost.

Once I reach the beach I quickly head into the public toilets to get changed into my swimmers. I come out of the toilets and grab my surfboard. I run into the ocean as I let the water lap over my body. Most people call the water freezing at this time of year but I find it refreshing. I lay sit up on my surfboard and look around at the blue ocean. The small waves make me go up and down like a cradle rocking me to sleep. I sigh and let the ocean take away all of my worries. I breathe in and love the smell of the salty water around me. I paddle out a bit more into the ocean and find the wave a little bit bigger than before. The surf is calm today, I'm glad. I lay back down on my board and close my eyes and let the waves rock me to sleep.

I wake with a start and tumble off my board. I swim up and grasp onto my board gulping in as much oxygen as I can. I hear chuckling and I look over to see Tyler sitting on a board.

"Tyler? What the hell!" I say climbing back onto my board.

"Heh heh, sorry, but um it's our shift at the beach shack." He says. All of my memory floods back in and I remember to conversation that my mum had with my Grandma. About Tyler and I. Being a thing.

Oh my God Alex! Were you actually considering the thought of you and Tyler dating? No way. He would never like you back, plus you don't want to ruin a perfectly good friendship.

"Hello, Earth to Alex." Tyler waves his hand in front of my face.

"Huh what. Oh sorry just day dreaming, it's the ocean I swear." I say putting my hands up like I'm a guilty criminal. He just laughs. He lays down on his board and starts paddling back towards the shore. I smile and follow after him.
