Chapter 8

I wake up on Monday morning with the alarm buzzing in my ear and I groan. I get ready for school and slowly drag myself downstairs to see my mum and sister making breakfast.

"Morning." I yawn, mostly aiming it to my sister. I haven't really talked to my mum about things yet, hopefully she hasn't grown suspicious of me.

"Good morning darling." My mum says coming over to give me a hug. I hesitantly hug her back as she kisses my cheek. I pull away and go put 2 pieces of bread in the toaster. My mum looks at me strangely but doesn't say anything and continues on her merry way.

Once I'm done making my breakfast I walk out the door and see Tyler standing on the foot path.

"Really crossy road again?" I ask and he simply nods his head and starts walking down the path.

"Hey you want to catch some waves on the weekend?" He asks shoving his phone in his pocket.

"Sounds good to me." I reply.

"Cool, Saturday morning?" He asks and I nod me head. We continue to make our way to school chatting like we've been friends for years. I feel as though I can easily talk to Tyler, like there is never much awkward moments between us. I'm glad that we can just be friends and not turn into something more like Brody and I did.

Once we reach the school and into the prison building, Tyler and I say our goodbyes and walk our separate ways to our classes. I head off to my history class with a little skip in my step. I don't know what it is but Tyler just makes me really happy.

I grab my tray and thank the lunch lady as I start to head over to the table that Chloe and Kate are sitting at. They both stare up at me and smile evilly.

"What?" I say placing my tray down.

"Oh, you know exactly what we're talking about." Chloe says. I roll my eyes at her remark.

"I don't like Tyler ok? We're just friends." I say.

"Sure, sure." Kate says taking a sip of her strawberry milk.

"So, what about you Kate?" I ask.

"What about me." She says narrowing her eyes at me.

"Who have you got your eyes on?" I say smirking at her.

"Pff." She laughs nervously. "What..." She says.

"Ohh, come on spill." Chloe says leaning in closer to her twin.

"K-mmmhh." She mumble so we don't hear.

"Sorry what was that?" I ask cupping my ear. She sighs as she realises that she can't escape Chloe and I.

"Kyle." She says quietly but loud enough for only Chloe and I to hear. Chloe starts squealing and clapping her hands making people look at our table weirdly. All of a sudden Jake casually sits next to Chloe then wraps an arm over her shoulder. Chloe's eyes seem to pop out of her head as she realises what's going on.

"Sup Chloe, how's my little sugar plum?" He says tapping her nose lightly. She immediately relaxes and giggles.

"I'm fine thanks for asking." She replies staring up into his mysterious green eyes. Kate and I seem to get out an imaginary box of popcorn as we watch the movie in front of us.

"Cool, are you free Friday night to help me study for the science exam?" He asks gazing into her eyes. Her cheeks redden and she just nods his head and chuckles. "See you at 7." He says and get up and walks away. Chloe just looks down at her lap knowing what we're going to say.

"Sleepover on Saturday!" Kate and I yell in unison not caring what stares we're getting. Chloe just laughs as the bell cuts her off. We say our goodbyes and head off to 3rd period.

I'm tapping my desk waiting for 4th period English to finish when suddenly a piece of paper hits me in the face. I stare in confusion as it hits the ground. I hear a snicker from my right and I look over to see Tyler covering his mouth with his hand trying not to laugh. I roll my eyes and pick up the piece of paper off the floor. I un-scrunch it and see what he's written.

You free Friday night? :)

Ty.

I look back over at Tyler and see that he's finally settled done and is looking at me waiting for an answer. I nod my head and smile and he smiles back revealing his dimples. I feel my cheeks heat up and I quickly look back down at my book and start scribbling shit.

Once school's over I walk out of the door and into the carpark when I feel someone grab my wrist and pull me into a hard chest.

Oh God no...

I slowly look up to see Brody smirking at me.

"So you had fun on Saturday?" I roll my eyes at his remark and start to walk away but he tightens his grip on my wrist and I cringe. He opens his mouth to say something more but is interrupted.

"Hey Brody." He quickly lets go of my wrist and turns around to face Tyler.

"Hey." They do some bro shake thing and I turn around to walk away not wanting to deal with this right now but Tyler stops me.

"Alex, hey it's our shift today isn't it?" He asks. I stop in my tracks and turn around.

"Yep." I say putting on a fake smile. I turn back around and walk towards the beach shack. Once I reach it I grab my clothes out of my bag and enter the bathroom to get changed. Once I'm done I walk out and see Tyler and Brody talking.

Oh God, why?

I smile at them and make my way into the kitchen hearing Tyler follow me. I turn back around again today for what feels like the millionth time. I see Brody has followed Tyler in the kitchen.

"Sorry no customers in the kitchen." I say.

"Oh come on, he can just hang in the kitchen while I cook right?" Tyler says butting in. My mouth practically drops to the ground.

"No." I say firmly.

"Oh lighten up." Tyler groans. I look at him shocked.

"Fine you guys run the shack then, I'm done!" I shout throwing my apron to the ground and storming out the kitchen.

"Wait Alex, I didn't-" He's cut off by Brody but I'm already out of the beach shack and half way down the street.

Once I get inside the house I rush up the stairs and face plant into my bed.

Today has been one hell of a day.
