Chapter 8
The sight shocked Link at first. Not because he was scared, but plainly because it was not expected. There was a certain aura around this person, this creature however, and it made Link somehow afraid; not really afraid, just enough to get that shiver down your spine.
This creature looked human but judging by the grey skin, red eyes and sharp teeth made this very unlikely. You could tell, however, by listening to the voice beforehand and studying the figure closely, that this thing was indeed a male. Instead of standing, it levitated above the ground with it's legs crossed and his expression looking bored. He wore a torn sleeveless shirt with ripped shorts. He looked like a prisoner himself as he had a broken chain around his ankle, yet it didn't seem like the case.
"Wh...who are you?!" Link hissed. "What are you?!"
"You handled this better than I thought, I guess," The human-like creature then flew over towards Link and smiled entertainingly. He was now in a different position, but still found himself floating in the air. "I get called many names," he grinned. "Some pleasant, some not so pleasant. If it's my actual name you're looking for..." He hovered even closer towards the Hylian, only a few centimeters away from his face now. "Then Nefan is the name."
"Nefin?" Link repeated.
"Nee-FAN." he growled. "I'm a demon. Not an imp. Call me an imp and you'll regret it."
Link's eyebrows wrinkled in confusion. He'd noticed that Nefan's personality had changed quite quickly. "How did you get here?" He pressed.
"Curiosity." The demon replied, regaining back his calm.
"Is that it?"
"Yes."
"Why do you want to free me then?"
Nefan rolled his eyes and moaned loudly. "Do you have to ask these many questions?" He whined "Why can't you just be happy that you're about to get saved? Dude, you're going to die tomorrow if you don't go with this." He breathed a dry chuckle then moved down to examine the chain.
He made a few grunts then and there, and his eyes squinted whenever he moved closer to the metal. He touched it at one point, and although he looked deep in concentration, Link suspected that he wasn't thinking anything at all, just trying to make himself look like he was.
"This looks pretty breakable if I may say so myself," He finally said, grinning with pleasure. Link raised an eyebrow in return, seeing that Nefan had no weapon to break the chain with..or even a brain to think with. "Ok, this might hurt, or not. I don't know really." he grunted, standing up properly.
"Wait, wha-" Before Link could completely finish his sentence, a big ball of energy came zooming towards him at break-neck speed. It connected with his chain, and once it did, there was a bright light and a sound of something breaking. When the light faded, the chain was broken..
Link could barely believe what he was seeing, in fact, he had to rub his eyes to see if this was reality, and even pinched himself.
"You look shocked." Nefan commented. "And rather...I don't know...not with it?"
"These past few days have been rough."
"Yeah, it very well looks like that." Link noticed Nefan's eyes study him as he stood, staring at his clothes the most.
"Let's just get out of here, please." Link sighed.
Nefan agreed without hesitation, and he levitated up from the ground. He floated over towards the cell door and opened it with the same magic he used to free Link, then instantly turned invisible. The rest was up to Link now. He had to sneak past the guards without being noticed, and to him, it sounded pretty easy.
