Chapter 9

Nefan led Link all the way to the exit. There were not many guards to dodge and avoid, and even if there came along a time when he had to hide from a knight, it was rather easy. He had wondered at one point, how the Princess Zelda is kept safe with the clumsiness of the guards. Perhaps he just thought the escape was simple because he had Nefan to protect him, after all, he wouldn't of made all of this without him.

The exit Nefan showed Link wasn't a door. No, that would be too easy to be caught by. Instead it was a tiny hole, located in a small corner of a corridor and hidden by a wooden box. How sneaky of the guards to do this.

"How'd you know it was here?" questioned Link with a raised eyebrow.

"Some girl told me." Nefan shrugged, moving the box.

"Some girl?"

"Oh, you'll meet her eventually. We'll be heading straight there as soon as we get out of this damn place."

"Excuse me?" Link blinked. "I never agreed with that."

Nefan spun on his heel to turn at him angrily. "Listen pal, do you seriously just think you can continue your normal life as soon as you get out of here? Do you seriously think that you can get back to your job and everything will be okay? All girly and a world full of rainbows?" he waited for Link to answer, watching intently at him. "Yeah, that's what I thought. You need this girl's help."

"...Who is she?" Link asked, after a few seconds of watching Nefan examine the hole.

The reply he received was a snort and "Wish I knew. Don't even know her name."

He then stood up and straightened himself, recovering quickly from his short outburst. He had a serious expression on his face, one of which you couldn't ignore. Link was expecting another shout or a scowl at his direction. But none came. Instead Nefan let out a big sigh revealing his sharp teeth and turned invisible yet again. He only told Link that he'd enter the escape route first as he could look out for danger that way. He also added that the exit route would lead them all the way to the sewers, so it would be best to cover his nose on his way. At the time, Link thought that Nefan was just teasing; surely this couldn't be the way to the sewers.

He was wrong.

Let's just say, the stench was repulsive and the whole time Link tried his best to hold his breath and when he couldn't, he instantly regretted it. Hoping that he would get out of the sewers as soon as possible, he awkwardly started jogging. He would've ran instead except he was very stiff from being imprisoned. Staying positive, he knew this was for the best.

The sewers were very tight and narrowed. They were barely any corners and turns, just a very long straight passage that seemed to go on forever. Through out the whole time, Link was tempted to ask Nefan a lot of questions for he was still confused over a few things; such as why Nefan was here in the first place and why exactly he saved him. Being "curious" was not much of a reply and it just left Link wondering even more. He was also unsure who this " unnamed girl" was and whether or not she was evil. For all he knew, Link could be walking into a trap.

Judging by Nefan's appearance, he was without a doubt a demon. So obviously he wasn't lying about his race. It was just that, when Link was little, he was always told tales about demons stealing people's souls, kidnapping little children, torturing innocent people and pretty much causing chaos whenever they could, wherever. This, to be honest, worried Link.

But something about Nefan seemed different. Yes, his looks was frightening and even intimidating but so far Nefan has saved Link for nothing in return. Or...was this the case?
