Chapter 10

It took too much persuading, yes. Nefan didn't want to go to anyone's house because he had claimed that they were in too much danger already, and needed to hurry and meet The Girl. Link asked further, but received no reply or the answer he wanted. Nefan did give in eventually however, when he noticed how much Link wanted this. As expected, he wasn't happy about it either. Link, however, was delighted.

That was before they arrived at his home.

When they did, everything was a mess. Tables were knocked over, as well as chairs. The fireplace was all dried out and the bed was all screwed up and upside down. Link's wall was also vandalized with paint and his framed photos were smashed as though they weren't important. There were a few muddy prints but what was the most shocking was the fact that there were drops of blood on the carpet. There was a sign of a struggle and to be honest, Link didn't know how he should've reacted. He did know however, that he'd prefer it if he never arrived in the first place.

Nefan found the whole thing awkward, not moving at all. He watched as Link spoke not a single word, wondering around his small house endlessly and sadly. Nefan's eyes couldn't leave the broken photographs on his shelves, portraying a younger Link. There were other photos which looked like him and his friends together, laughing, smiling. No signs of a family though, or so it seemed. He knew that, at this moment, Link must've felt so betrayed, so lonely because these photo's seemed so precious.

Without a doubt, the knights did this. That was the worst part. People who fought aside Link did this to him.

"...They took my money." Link said miserably as he looked through his wallet. He tried to hide his heartbroken face, only it wasn't working. Nefan gulped and said nothing, just stared as Link walked slowly towards his photographs. "And my pictures...my beloved pictures...they're..." He didn't finish his sentence, only bowed his head in misery. "Who could've done this?"

"The knights."

Link slowly lifted his head up towards Nefan, the sad expression still lingering on his face. It was a look of betrayal. "How can you be so sure?"

Nefan said, "Well, unless you always kept your house in this mess, then what else can the reason be? Random people very rarely come into people's houses and wreck their stuff without a reason. Plus, you had no enemies beforehand." The past tense of his last sentence annoyed Link. "But you have enemies now, don't you? And those specific enemies are the guards...or everyone for that matter...but mostly guards."

Link looked back down to the ground because he knew that this was the truth. He closed his eyes and imagined himself of him wearing his special armor  protecting the citizens of Hyrule. He'd be next to Franz on the rooftops so he could look down and wave, and Aleg would be there waving back. Yet, those specific horrible thoughts still haunted Link's mind, reminding him every time that he's a criminal whenever nice thoughts came across him. His knowledge showed him that he'd be on the run forever, never being a hero like that day. He'd never feel that accomplishment, that achievement ever again. People hated him, despised him. And he hadn't even done anything wrong. He was innocent.

"Anyway, lets go." murmured Nefan, breaking the depressing atmosphere. And as he said that and turned to leave, out of the corner of his eye he could see Link grab for some things. A wallet, a diary and a what seemed like a photograph. And the thing was, the photograph came from underneath his carpet; presumably from a secret hatch. A weird place it was, indeed, but it showed a certain thing and that certain thing was that it showed was that this picture was important to Link. So important that he felt the need to hide it and cherish it so no harm would come to it.
