Chapter 7

To Link, sleeping was not an option. Not now anyway. As soon as he escapes and gets himself out of the cell, his plan was to go home, get some sleep and...well, he hadn't exactly thought about the rest. There was simply no time to do so. He took his time to study his surroundings and to test if his chain was at all breakable. As expected, it wasn't, but this didn't stop him tugging at it every now and then. The slabs in the walls were of course unmovable, yet he liked to think they weren't. There were no signs of holes from him to escape through, and even so, he wouldn't be able to run away because of the stupid chain. In fact the chain was the solution to all his problems. He was going nowhere while the chain's still attached to him. He began tugging it again with all his power, however, to no prevail.

Tears swelled in his eyes - the first time in a while. He was surprised he wasn't tearing up earlier because all that had happened was some serious stuff. Perhaps he thought he was actually going to get out of his situation and death sentence other than finding the complete opposite.

He stopped messing with the chain as soon as the guard walked past him. Their eyes locked for a few seconds, the guard glaring quite angrily. Link had thought, for a moment, whether or not the guard had seen him struggling with the object currently binding him.

"What are you looking at?" he growled. When Link didn't respond, the guard repeated what he had said, striking the steel bars hard with his sword afterwards. Still no answer. Then the guard eventually gave up, spitting in disgust whilst doing so. He continued shouting non-pleasant things at other prisoners and made his way down the hall. This left Link to continue to think hard.

He had saw a key on the guard's waist, which to him, was really stupid. Then again, it was not like people could just snap out of the chain and skillfully sprint towards the guard, snatch the key and free themselves from captivity. Link frowned. It was a key, right? His vision wasn't exactly hundred percent and nor was his mind. He swear he saw it glisten in the moonlight, the silver of it showing. Maybe he was just imagining it. No. It was there. This made Link determined because this certain guard only makes his rounds at night...and this was Link's final day. In other words this was his final chance. But was he going to seriously make it out of this place?

Maybe.

He began biting his tongue as he pulled the chain the best he could. It made a unusual clink which made Link feel accomplished  like he had actually snapped the chain, however, this was proved to not be the case and it instantly made Link sad again. But this didn't stop him. It just made him more determined. The chain seemed to almost break this time around, but of course it didn't actually; it just made load more noise.

"What d'ya think yer 'doin?" a voice shrieked and looking up Link found two angry eyes looking back at him. Link gulped as a man, the guard, wacked the bars with his sword. "If I see yer do that again, there'll be trouble!" Then when no reply came, the guard shouted, "Do ye' understand?" Link gulped and nodded, scared that he'd receive a beating if not. The guard left it to that, as though a simple nod would resolve an argument like this. Link assumed the knight merely couldn't be bothered with a fight as his eyes looked tired and fed up. Link was in luck. Well, not exactly.

He still had a chain to handle.

He tried his hardest to imagine a way of forcing the chain connecting to the shackle break easily, without making as much noise of course. However, he thought of nothing. There were no possibilities  and nothing surrounding him that would help; just bones, a few rats even. He knew he was screwed, but in all honesty he knew that bad thoughts were not going to support him in any way either. He had to stay positive.

"Hehehehe, are you trapped little human?"

An evil, cheeky voice came from somewhere in the cell. Link was not expecting it, making it take him by surprise.

"Who's there?!" He suddenly hissed, his voice loud yet also quiet enough for the guard not to hear.

No response.

I must have been imagining it... This place kinda would make you insane, Link thought.

But that was when the wicked giggle came again.

"You wouldn't know me, so no point in answering that question..." said the voice.

Out of the corner of his eye, Link swore he saw a shadow. He immediately put his mind of it though, with the same reason as to why he thought he was imagining the voice. Link forced himself to say nothing - just to rest his head against the wall and try to think of an escape plan.

"Oh? You're not surprised by a voice coming from your cell? How someone managed to get in here?"

Link rolled his eyes. This voice in his head was annoying him.

"Hello?" When there was again silence, it angered whomever was talking. "Hello?!" With a fierce voice, something solid struck Link at his arm, making him nearly cry out in pain. He automatically grabbed where he had been hit, seeing that it was now a pinky colour on the surface of his skin. His eyes were of course wide because while looking around him, no one was to be seen.

That was when he knew it was real. That whoever was talking, was surely here. Not his mind playing tricks. It's just that, he couldn't see this person, this thing.

"Why aren't you replying? Do you speak a different language? Weird, judging by those pointy ears of yours, I'd assumed you would speak Hylian." The person, or thing, then continued to talk in a language completely alien to Link. His eyebrows wrinkled in confusion. He even didn't know what language it was.

"Listen," Link began, feeling brave. "I honestly can't see you, and even so, it's clearly impossible for someone to enter this cell unless you have a key." A pause. "Who are you anyway?"

"I am your saviour."

"What?" Somehow, those simple four words left a bit of faith in Link, but he still couldn't help a little chuckle at the reply.

"I'm going to help you out of here."

"But I can't see you.." Link said in a dumb expression.

"I know, I know. I'm just not sure how you'll react to me. Y'know. I'm different looking from you guys."

"Well, you have to show me what you look like eventually." Link pointed out.

"Oh, yeah."

Once again, Link noticed a shadow pass by in the corner of the room but this time he knew for certain that it was there. He was prepared for anything "surprising" and shocking although he wasn't really expecting much of the sort. He had a lot of things happen in his lifetime so an invisible being would not appear non-ordinary to him. Besides, Hyrule had all sorts of odd things happening, like the murders for example. Except there were other things too. Link couldn't really put his finger on it though, it's just that the atmosphere wherever he went was rather an evil, eerie sort - much different from usual. Perhaps it was a sign.

Just then, a sudden red flash appeared before Link. It was too bright for him, and he was made to shield his eyes with his hands right away before they caused any damage to them. He even closed his eyes tight until he was certain the light had vanished. With bravery and anxiousness, he removed his hands and gingerly opened his blue eyes.

And that was when he saw him...for the first time.
