Chapter 4
The room which Link had just been forced to enter, was outstanding. A huge rich, diamond encrusted chandelier hung from the ceiling reflecting off the suns rays, which pierced magnificently through the church-like windows. More knights stood in front of of those windows with their heads and expressions covered by their helmets. They took their position seriously and all of them didn't seem to move, making them seem like statues. The room was huge and well designed with great importance showing everywhere you looked. This whole scene nearly distracted Link from the reason as to why he was actually here in the first place.
"State your business." Someone with a deep voice ordered.
Link automatically looked to where the sound was coming from, seeing a tall white haired man dressed in red robes before him. He sat on a throne, made from gold and red cushion. It wouldn't take anyone smart to figure out who this was obviously.
The King.
Link started to panic instantly. Whatever he had gotten himself into, whoever he supposedly killed and betrayed, was serious enough to involve the King himself. Nothing had made him more afraid and nervous to such a situation before, and had began to try to flee from the soldier's grasp. Of course, he came to no prevail and yet, even if he did manage to escape Reer and Glint somehow, he stood no chance against the other soldiers surely.
"Link..." The King's voice echoed throughout the room. He face was expressionless as he stared directly into Link's eyes. "You are probably the last person I'd suspect to be accused of such a crime." No speech was made, just pure silence. Link's heart was beating faster than before and to add to it, he felt rather faint and ill. So the King stood, looking incredibly tall from where Link was and started to pace back and forth slowly as he continued to speak. "You see, Link, we have proof of your killings. There has been various reports coming from suspects that you murdered people, you betrayed us Hylians and you are a disgrace!" His voice grew louder as his sentences progressed. There was a moment of pause before Link pulled himself together.
"B-but, I didn't do anything, my King," he insisted, making him receive a raised eyebrow in reply. "I don't mean to be rude, forgive me if I am, but you don't actually necessarily have proof, do you? There could be anyone walking around Hyrule who looks exactly like me and killing people."
A snort. "Yes, however, it is impossible for them to sound exactly like you too, Link. Too much of a coincidence? I think so. We all think so." said the King. "Now, give us a better excuse, yes?"
"I will, but it's not an excuse. It may sound it, but it's not."
"Oh?"
Link gulped before proceeding. How could he word what he had witnessed that night without sounding like a complete lunatic? He thought sentences over and over in his head, trying to find a suitable one to say as the King waited patiently for his response.
"There was this boy.. that night," he finally began. "He...wasn't like any other. I witnessed him kill a knight with my own eyes. I wouldn't say it frightened me, no, it was more of a shock that something like that would be happening here in Hyrule. I got distracted I must say, so my guard was down when I heard mysterious giggling coming from one place to the next. I was confused as to where it was coming from which made me an open target to an attack. Someone...he...grabbed me from behind and started to choke me. He just laughed and pushed me away, giving the most sarcastic yawn while doing so. We fought a little...and he spoke...he said he knew me."
"Who?" asked a voice.
Link ignored the question. "And-and near that moment, that's when I saw him. Despite the dark skin, red eyes and grey hair...he was the spitting image...of me."
Most people would assume that the King would burst out laughing at how ridiculous Link sounded, but instead, it was the knights around him who sniggered at his so-called lies; Reer laughing the loudest. In fact, the King remained how he was earlier - calm, collected and emotionless. However, Link swore he saw his eyes widen just a little; perhaps with shock or scaredness. His eyes were locked on the King's, and both stared at one another before the King could analyse Link's seriousness. He sighed then, which wasn't heard very much heard over the now cackle of the Knight's laughter. You could see his anger rise all of a sudden, his face turning pure red.
"SILENCE!" The King roared, and he was obeyed immediately. He then turned directly to Link, his cool returning. "I do not really believe you, mind. However, I need to remind myself how much of a good person you make yourself out to be. I cannot really accuse you of this crime but others have...even our high leveled knights. In fact, they have seen you murdering people long ago, it was only now that our suspicions have reached final." He took a deep sigh. "I have no other choice..I am afraid..."
"What are you talking about??" Link cried. "I have done nothing! I swear! Please, if I can prove myself worthy in any way-"
"No, Link."
"I am innocent though-"
"No."
"But-"
"No."
And it was final. Before he could protest, before he could beg for freedom, Link was dragged away once again, through the corridors and back down into the cells below.
