One day I was exploring a new cave. trying to carve the inside into a straircase.

This was before the Birchwood District had been established and only a few building had been erected. The upper regions were still a forest.

I found one of them.
He seemed to have been in this cave for a long time. I had heard his murmurs ever since setting foot into that cave.
There was a significant drop in the tight stone rifts about 5 or 6 metres deep, just deep enough to not be able to climb out of it.

He was pacing around at the bottom. I don't know how he got there, maybe he had wandered in here by accident.
He did not seem too pressed to find an exit. Maybe he was even content down here.
His pacing around quickly suggested otherwise though.

He was looking for a way up, not frantic but still eager.
The cave went deeper to the right after the drop but he seemed to just be interested in going back upwards.
I guess he reasoned teleporting could be too dangerous, lest he risks ending up teleporting into solid stone and perishing.

"Hello there." I let out as I observed his predicament.
As his head perked up to look at me with curiosity, I made sure to avoid those eyes. I wouldn't want to enrage him.
"How'd you get down here?" I teased. He said nothing. I didn't expect him to.
