SONG OF THE CHAPTER: THE GREATEST - Billie Eilish

Creeping rays of sunlight shone on the girls cuddled together in the bed. Natasha was curled into a ball resting her head against Y/n's chest whilst Y/n's arms were wrapped around the girl bringing her closer.

They had spent the night catching up over a few glasses of wine with soft music playing quietly in the background.

Flashback:

Y/n had been talking about what she had done after getting out of the raft before meeting up with Mike and the rest of the group.

"You became an axe murderer?!" Nat spoke, jaw dropped.

"What? It's a good way to relieve stress. Pretty effective too." Y/n smirked. " plus it's in my nature." She mumbled.

-

Y/n had woken up first letting out a quiet groan at the brightness of the sun. Her eyes settled back onto Natasha and couldn't help but admire her.

She lifted her hand softly and began to slowly run her hands through Nat's hair.

"You really can pull off any hairstyle. You look so pretty." Y/n whispered.

Natasha stirred briefly and brought Y/n closer towards her by the hips.

"I love you Y/n, I'm sorry for everything," she whispered in her raspy voice with her eyes still closed.

"I love you too Nat. It was my fault too." Y/n kissed her on the forehead.

Nat had begun to draw circles on the visible part of y/ns stomach where her borrowed t-shirt had been lifted.

An hour had passed and Natasha was the one to break the silence.

"I'm hungry, do you want some breakfast?" She said resting on her elbow.

"Yeah, I'll come to help you."

-

"Do you have an outfit I can borrow? I'm going to get my stuff later I think." Y/n spoke whilst eating the pancakes she'd helped Natasha make.

"Oh, yeah just take whatever I don't mind," the blonde smirked.

"Besides it's not as if my wardrobe wasn't half of your clothes anyways."

-

Y/n had left a couple of hours after that to go retrieve her stuff from their base.

When she got there it was scarily quiet. All their cars were parked but something felt off.

Following her intuition, Stygian entered through the upstairs window to her bedroom and managed to quickly gather her stuff.

She gently wandered through the rest of the apartment: gun in hand.

-

"Hello?" Natasha responded to the random phone call.

All she heard on the other end of the phone was panting and the sound of combat.

"Shit y/n?!"

A minute goes by and she hears the phone again.

"Y/n? Are you there?"

"I'll be back in about five minutes." She winced.

-

It only took one gentle knock before Natasha swung open the door for Y/n.

"What the hell happened? I thought you were just going to get your stuff, are you okay?!"

Y/n just looked down and dropped her stuff. Slowly walking towards Nat she rested her head on her shoulder.

"What happened hon?" Natasha said a little shocked at first but wrapping her arms around the girl and stroking her hair.

Stygian began to cry quietly. "They're all... dead," she sobbed.

"Oh god, breathe Y/n remember to breathe. It's going to be okay."

"It was like...like a massacre. They were all over the place. And the guys were still there trying to loot them. I managed to kill them but...they're all dead. I hadn't even realised until after I had gotten my things."

"Let's sit you down and I'll get you some water, okay?"

"Okay."

"Are you injured or anything?"

"I don't think anything major just a few cuts on my leg." She sniffed wiping her eyes.

"Would you mind me cleaning them?"

"No you can," she mumbled beginning to drink her water.

In the end, they ended up cuddling in the lounge with Natasha playing with Y/n's hair. She still cried a bit but Nat understood. Every now and then she would kiss her on her head as they watched whatever crap was on TV.

- a week later -

Y/n had recovered quite a bit and was close to normal. She was almost refusing to think about it but let her emotions go during exercise.

Natasha had just got off the phone and walked into the kitchen.

"Hey, Y/n... we've been called back."

"To the compound?"

"Yeah."

"Why? Both of us or just you and also I pissed Tony off quite a bit so I'm not sure how well that would go down." She laughed.

"It was him on the phone it's the both of us he wants, and the rest of the team. We're missed." Natasha laughed too, "Basically for security reasons we need to come back together in case something happens. There's also a meeting with Fury that everyone needs to attend."
