SONG OF THE CHAPTER: Back to black - Amy Winehouse

"So what have you been doing whilst I've been away?" Y/n asked drinking her coffee in the kitchen.

Mike glanced at Carla then towards the rest of the group and smirked.

"Well... we raided an old hydra base and you'll never guess what we found," He spoke whilst opening a hidden door.

"Damn a secret base." Y/n gazed in amazement

"We took some of their machinery and found that not only were they using the sceptre directly, but they also created a machine that emits enough radiation to mutate a person's DNA,"  Richard spoke.

"So more human testing?" Stygian raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, that's essentially what they were doing."

"So what are you planning to do with it?"

"Well we tried to fix it up a bit and we were going to test it on one of us."

"Try me," Stygian smirked heading towards a desk in the corner of the room to pull up a chair

"Are you sure? Especially after everything?" Carla asked quite concerned.

"Sure what's the worst that could happen."

"A lot of things, but I suppose you're already aware of that," Mike spoke.

Y/n was sitting on the chair in the middle of the room waiting. The rest of the group was sorting the machine out and playing with the controls.

"Taking your time, huh?" Y/n joked.

"We can take longer if you so desperately wish?" Carla spoke sarcastically.

"Right, we're ready!" Mike shouted, clapping his hands together. "Tell us to stop if you need to."

Stygian nodded her head and shuffled in her seat ready.

"3...2...1.."

The machine set off sending multiple blasts of radiation towards Stygian.

For a while, it seemed to not be affecting her in the slightest. Then after a minute, they switched it off.

"That must've been why the machine wasn't too hidden, I don't think it works," another member of the group sighed.

"Do you feel any different Styg?" Carla asked

"Not until you called me that nickname, now I'm all hot and bothered." Y/n joked, smirking at Carla.

"Wait, no she actually has gotten quite red, check her temperature to be sure," Mike instructed.

When they checked her temperature, they looked like they had seen a ghost.

"Stygian are you sure you feel okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, how high is my temperature?"

"You're off the charts..." Richard trailed off.

"What?"

"You're hotter than the scale can handle, what the hell?"

"Carla, check her."

Under a microscope, Carla was inspecting the girl's DNA.

"Yeah, genetic mutation by the looks of it. It worked." Carla spoke in disbelief.

"The real question is what did it do? Because it must cause something. If it didn't hydra wouldn't have bothered to create it." Y/n questioned. "I say we go round two with it."

"Are you sure? That seems incredibly dangerous."

"We've discovered it doesn't do much so why not try more?"

"Fine. Get ready. 3...2...1.."

Once again, the machine shot multiple blasts of radiation at Stygian.

Y/n could feel the energy rushing to her hands and she tried to control it the best she could.

Sparks of fire started flickering on and off in her hand.

Suddenly, the machine started sputtering and sparking, breaking seconds later. The extreme use of the power had broken the machine completely.

Flames gushed out of her hand and ran up her arms and up her neck, burning her. Thankfully due to the serum she'd not be scarred.

The group quickly ran over to her.

"Woah, what the hell. Stygian are you alright?"

"I don't know but this is insane. I shouldn't scar badly because of the serum protecting me. It doesnt let me feel much pain either"

When she locked eyes with the others they noticed how her eyes had changed colour to match the flames.

"We can work with this, this is awesome!"

"A little training and you'll be so powerful!"

"The only question is, who's going to train me? Because as far as I'm aware none of yous have powers?"

Over weeks Y/n had tried to control her power as much as possible. She'd learnt to form flames in her hands on command, and how to fire them wherever.

Now, she was trying to find out if she could fly with this power. She figured if she was to use enough energy she could get herself to float.

Hours and hours later, after many visits from the group, she was briefly floating above the ground.

She was completely speechless. Stygian was in such disbelief at this new power, that she fell onto the floor.

As she laid down the exhaustion hit her.

"This is insane," she said to herself.

"I know. I can't believe you got powers."

The only issue with this new power is that if she tried to overuse it would start to take over her body and burn her.
