Ashley wasn't sure how long she could take living with her mom. Sure, she looked after her(barely) but it seemed like the chores would never end.
It was always, 'go cook food!', 'clean up the house!', 'go into town for this!', always orders.
All her mom ever did was either sleep or go out with men to rob them for money just so she could spend it all on alcohol.
Ashley hated it.
While she was folding the clothes up to put away, she heard a loud rustle coming from the forest she lived near.
Intrigued, she laid the clothes down and tip toed outside, making sure her mom didn't hear her.
It was probably just the wind or something like that, but anything was interesting to her when she was stuck cooped up indoors all day.
A small grin crossed her face when she pushed past the bushes and walked into the forest, looking around before bumping into a large stalk that cut off the path.
She stumbled back and let out a small grunt at the impact, getting back up to look at the stalk.
"Jesus, that's...does that even end?" She murmured under her breath as she stared up into the clouds.
She wanted to find an answer to that question.
So that was where her boredom left her: climbing up the stalk, excited to find where it lead to or at least have a good view.
Just imagining looking down at the world above the clouds seemed incredible to her - even if she wouldn't get that far, it was still fun to have an imagination.
As the end of it neared, her grin grew wider and she clambered over the top, her jaw slacking in awe at the sight before her.
It was a castle. An enormous one. The windows were as big as whole houses themselves and the entirety of the castle seemed to stretch even further beyond the clouds if that was even possible.
Quickly shaking her head to try and regain her composure, she stood up straight and walked over to the entrance to examine the door.
It was like nothing she had seen before - a thing of fairytales.
Smirking mischievously, she crept under the gap of the door. It was in her nature, she was curious after all. Maybe she could escape her mom here.
As she snuck in, she took a moment to marvel at the sight: it looked luxurious, with chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and the doors so clean they could be sparkling.
It was all just big.
But that wasn't even the best part - after a long time she reached the kitchen, gasping as she stared at the mountains worth of food stacked up on top of each other.
Her cheeks hurt from smiling so much, she could nearly contain herself from eating the food. No one would notice anyway, right?
That thought stopped her in her tracks. Did anyone live here? Who would live in such a giant place anyway?
Suddenly, a loud tremor shook the ground, followed by others in a rhythmatic pattern.
Her eyes widened when she caught sight of a giant body walking into the room, almost causing her to back up with shock.
He was so, so, so so intimidatingly big. She had to crane her neck up to take in his black, messy hair.
"O-oh my god.." she squeaked quietly, accidentally alerting the giant of her presence in the room.
His head spun and they locked eyes for a moment - her heart pounding heavily against her chest - before she quickly began to run away, pushing past the giant eclairs and getting some chocolate smudged on her skirt.
She took a chance to look down at it with a grimace. Mom would be mad at her for that.
But she gathered herself and hastily continued running as fast as her legs could take her until she ran into a hard wall of flesh.
Gasping, she looked up - it was a hand. A massive one, blocking her escape.
"No..!" She screamed, scrambling back, only to run into another, this time the big thumb covering her mouth so she couldn't make any noise.
"No, no, no, shh..! He'll hear you, please be quiet..." A somewhat loud yet soft voice rang out while she struggled.
He hesitantly pulled his hand away and let her go, still keeping his hands hovering just around her as she stared up at him in a dazed confusion.
"Wh..what the hell...are you?" She spluttered out anxiously, her voice shaking.
"Uhh, I'm a servant, if that's what you mean?" He replied with a nervous chuckle.
She got up and brushed herself off, sighing.
"But you're...you're...you're.."
"Big?"
"Yeah. R-Really. Huge."
He smiled softly at her and shook his head.
"Well, I'm a giant. You can probably see that though."
He moved his hand towards her skirt and she instinctively backed up, causing him to slow his movements.
"Sorry miss, I just wanna...clean you up. What are you doing in a place like this anyway? Surely you humans should stay away from the bean stalk." He murmured as he raised his hands.
"I was just curious- and I- well- you know!" She gave up with her words and slumped down, hesitantly allowing the giant man's gloved hand to rub the chocolate off her skirt.
"Thank you." She mumbled meekly.
Another few rumbles passed through the building and the giant servant gasped, quickly snatching her up in his fist.
She began to panic, flailing wildly and kicking around in his hand.
"Let me out!" She shouted desperately, but he only tightened his grip before she was tossed out of the castle.
"Please understand, if you were caught here you would be in trouble!" He called out to her before slamming the door shut in her face.
She stood there, stunned.
What did this mean? Would she ever see this place again? Hell yeah she would.
She thought for a moment before climbing down the stalk back to the forest and rushing home, the excited smile on her face fading into an annoyed frown as soon as she saw her mom waiting inside with a cross expression. This wasn't ending too well.
