I was sat in the sand with the debs and the boys, till Belly walked up with the pitcher from the blender. Setting it on the table between Conrad and I, I felt a little awkward for some reason. Out of place, I wanted to be somewhere else. I wanted to be with someone who would talk to me, listed. Someone I could really be friends with. Things escalated really quickly after Belly brought her pomegranate margaritas. The reason being because they tasted so delicious and we were playing a drinking game. I still don't really know the exact rules of the game but I was just drinking and so was everyone else but Cam. It was easy because we were all laughing and having fun. Even though I was in such a close proximity to Jeremiah and my dad. Both of which I didn't want to see right now. But for once I didn't care.
I watched confused as all Gigi and Shayla left in a hurry, leaving Steven standing in the driveway when I walked up behind him. "Aww why did they leave?" I am clueless, I know that. I mostly always am.
"I kissed Taylor at your guys party, Belly just told Shayla." His face was emotionless, but he was upset.
"Oh." I frowned.
"You know I'm glad you're still a good sister Ollie. Sometimes I done even know who Belly is anymore." That was a true statement there, was it fair to Belly? No; but it was becoming more and more obvious with the time we've spent here. I'm not sure if it had something to do with the deb ball, or the partying, or the boys. But she was changing right before my eyes.
I want to be doing the same things, well that's what I was trying not to do. But the changing part becoming more appealing to guys my age part. I was pretty out of it by the time I saw Conrad walking up from the beach, covered in a little bit of sand and seaweed. I followed him to the shower outside. "What happened to you?" I still had a red solo cup in my hand, filled with the last little bit of pomegranate margarita.
"Oh, nothing." He turned the water on to rinse off the dirt from my body. He's lying.
"You're lying." I spoke before thinking, he looked over at me. "Why?" I wasn't confused, I was more tired of people lying to me.
"It doesn't matter, it's not a big deal." He responded tipping his head back under the water. "How many of those have you had?" I saw a way into getting the answer from him.
"I'll tell you if you tell me." I drug out my words like I was singing. He rolled his eyes in a playful way.
"Jere and I got into an argument, he threw dirt at me. Not a big deal."
"Do you guys still get along?" He nodded his head looking at me.
"Sometimes." He shrugged rinsing the sand off his shirtless body now. "How many of those have you had?" I hummed.
"Five," I counted on my fingers I really didn't know the true answer. "Seven," he looked at me concerned. "Fifteen? Who knows." I laughed a little.
"Livvy." He spoke softly.
"What don't worry about it."
"I'm not worrying, you're way too much of a lightweight for all of that." I scrunched my face offended. "Here give me this." He reached out to grab the cup and I moved back. "Liv." He spoke sternly.
"What, come on Connie. Have some fun!" I said trying to convince him, he grabbed the cup and hopped back under the stream of water. Setting it on the ledge of the shower wall, way higher than I could reach.
"I do have fun!" He defended.
"Well why can't I have fun?" I stepped closer to the shower opening.
"Because you're young and I don't want you to get in trouble." I rolled my eyes annoyed that he was trying to care.
"You're young and you've been rebellious all summer. Smoking weed and cigarettes, your room is right by mine don't even try to deny it!" I pointed playing he shook his head water droplets falling down his body.
"I'm older than you, Livvy."
I laughed. "Only by two years!"
"Two and a half." He argued. "You know what? I'm showering, can you give me some privacy please?" I was shocked he was just now pulling that card, as if Susannah didn't have us all rinse off together as kids.
"If you give me my cup, I'll leave." I rebuttal holding my hand out, he grabbed the cup. Holding it out to me, but just when I went to grab it he pulled his hand up out of my reach. "Connie."
"Livvy." He said back with a small laugh, this was the happiest I've seen him since he found out his dad was here.
"Give me the cup and I'll leave you to shower in peace." I proposed, he looked up like he was thinking about it.
"If you want it so bad why don't you come take it from me." His voice had a daring playful tone and honestly it was intriguing. I wanted to know why he was doing this. So I entertained it.
Walking into the shower he held it as high as his arms could reach and I stepped onto my tippy toes to try and grab it. No luck, I tugged at his arm to see if he'd bring it down a little and I could snag it from him. He's too strong. This made him genuinely laugh so I was glad I wasn't just annoying him. So finally I got an idea, I jumped putting my hand on his chest for leverage and reached the bottom of the cup. I couldn't tell if it was on purpose but he dropped the cup as I landed back on my feet.
I looked up eyes wide and frustrated playful frown was set on my face as I looked in his eyes. "Oops." It was on purpose, but I realized my positioning. My hands were still rested on his chest, his skin was cold from the water and my body was now drenched. My clothes weighing down against my skin, he was looking down his eyes burning into mine. Kiss him. That's what my head was telling me, to kiss him.
I can't tell you how long we stood like that, my hands on his chest and his fighting to stay to his sides. This didn't feel real, not even a little bit. But the blood rushed to my cheeks so scarlet it was maroon. I knew he had to be able to tell, his chest was moving up and down quickly. I could feel his heart pounding, but why? Why me? Why right now? He swallowed before he finally spoke, he looked down for a quick second. Then quickly moved his eyes back up to mine.
"Your shirts see through."
